Flatbed companies that take students

How long is training? Do you get paid every week? Enough to have money in your bank every week for your family to cover bills etc.? I heard they don't have money to cover sometimes. Do you know if they would take me not having much experience? I got my cdl in 2012 but haven't really used it. I need to be home for my wife and kids.

 

Training is 6 weeks in all 7 weeks
You spend 2 weeks at a terminal for training then you will be witha trainer for 4 weeks. Then you will go to Cuba,AL for final week. You get paid every week. They just raised training pay to 550 a week and mileage pay by .02

 

Hey everyone I'm graduating CDL school next week and have talked to a lot of recruiters at least 10 different companies. McElroy has come to the top of my list, I'm from Fayetteville NC. I am not concerned what I haul but really like the aspect of hauling flat bed just because it will offer some exercise and challenge. I have been reading mixed reviews on this company, could some one please give me a straight forward answer. The recruiter told me to ask actual drivers how they feel. But I haven't seen anyone at the truck stops to ask. So I am asking you guys, I would like to know what I should expect for a weekly pay check and if there is a idling policy. I have asked my recruiter and she informed me that there was no apu/inverters but drivers can idle. I understand a rookie driver will not make as much the first year, I plan on treating it like a deployment and gain experience, stay safe and really just survive the first year. But if I'm going to be away from my family then I don't want to make pennies either. I am retiring from the Army and this is my next career choice. Thanks in advance everyone!

I retired from the Army and went with McElroy; great folks; great company; they get you home on the weekends.....in my case (depends on where you live) usually between 1800 and 0130 friday/sat....most times out on Sunday after lunch...1400-1600......between monday and wednesday the best company ever......thursday and friday I'd find myself getting loads away from home....with not enough time to run legal to get home on friday.....that's why I was so late getting to the house....If running legal...I'd have been home Saturday around lunch a bunch......would not have a 34 hour reset prior to their requirement for arrival at monday consignee 10 hours prior to have a fresh start for the week....was told that a 34 hour was not a requirement...I could run on recap......this from my fleet manager.....

The Pay......not good for what you do...not whining.........it's just not...cents per mile look good......but net pay seldom over 700...for the week....ok...twice since I've worked for them in the last 4 months and I run hard.....and those two months were the weeks when I had to run out of hours to get home on Friday.....

That being said....I like the company; like the folks.....you could do much worse for a first company.....when I had a tire or some other problem on the road it was dealt with quickly....1.5 hours average down time for a tire.....equipment was good.....other employee's help one another....but I just get the feeling there is something better out there for me......

it was very hard for me to quit a company....I've never quit a job in my life....25 years in the Army.....I'm still taking it hard.....turn my truck in next friday...and still have a great rapport with my fleet manager.....

Hard for me to complain about my company....Army culture is don't be a whiner....I'm not complaining....I just have a good retirement income and can afford to shop around.....I'd still recommend McElroy to a beginner for their training program....and network of great drivers.....

 

If you are a student who already has a CDL, Long Haul trucking out of Albertville, MN will train you if you are a military veteran. Other then that you will need 3 yrs driving/FB experience.

 

Hj, good afternoon. I was wondering if anyone could give me any good and honest advice about any good companies to drive for driving back and forth from Orlando, Fl /Florida to Atlanta, Georgia? With Weekends off (Saturday & Sunday off) Right now I live in Marietta, GA (Atlanta area) and I am trying to see what opportunities with good weekly pay, benefits, take care of you and family? I know there is no perfect company. Also, I was wondering is Brown Trucking Company a good company to work for?? Heard mixed reviews etc. More bad things? I was considering to work for them but now not sure?? Also, is Stokes Fish and Lake Trucking Company a good company to drive for? They are out of Leesburg, FL team driving.
