Probably gonna hear about this but here is my opinion.
I paid $1200 for 10 hours driving and the use of their equipment to take my road test at the DMV. I already had my permit. I was also already proficient at backing trailers which certainly didn't hurt.
Driving a truck is not rocket science. If you have a lick of common sense and are a quick hands on learner type this should be plenty to learn the bare minimum that most schools are designed to teach. There is enough info on the internet to teach yourself what you need to get your license (pre trip). There are also many many companies that hire new cdl holders with no experience. Do a year tour with one of them then they will be filling your mailbox with recruiting flyers. A year will fly by.
Everyone says to avoid the megas, yet everyone jumps through the unreasonable requirements that they require to be employed by them. Only to move on after a year anyways.
I've been driving for only 4 or so years but here is my advice. Your results may vary.
I have been nearly run off the road several times by them 600 hours of schooling mega drivers. If you're a driver you're a driver. We have all had a first day and a first time that seat feels like it's sucking up the crack of your bum. No school can duplicate that experience.
