Got one of those heavy ones Saturday afternoon out of Joplin to Tualatin. Got loaded about 20 hours early and that may be a saving grace but if things go "good" I may be able to knock out a reset in Troutdale before delivery but not really expecting that to happen looking at the Wx next few days. Fiddling with fuel to keep below about 1/2 tank at scales and still need the 400 Lb APU exemption to work for me. Working on eating all my groceries and drinking all my water to lighten the gross a bit.
I'll email Lori about this load to see if this is a usual load for them and if they are always at 44,700. I expect this is a normal run, but not sure if it's a normal weight. It was full pallets of all 1 product, all the way back. I was not going to go back to get them to do whatever they would do, just for 400 over gross at 1/2 fuel. It was Saturday, and they had been closed 2 days and were super busy. I felt fortunate to get loaded and out when I did.
Clock ran out in Cheyenne. Wind here's about 25+, blowing over Elk Mountain 35-45, with occasional gusts reported to 55, and blowing snow around but no chain requirements as of Sunday evening. Expecting very windy conditions across Wyoming next several days. New snow now arriving near Evanston area.
I'll plan for departure about 05:00 local and see what's going on and to maybe hit the base of Elk Mountain after daylight.

So if you have a apu,dot allows you 400lbs over gross?
-
Yes. Most states do (or supposed to, push come to shove). And I think it's actually 475 Lbs now.

Dang my last one was a heavy as well.. had to keep putting in 50 gallons lol. I'm shower rich!!!
Waiting till tomorrow to pick up in Portland Oregon to ft Worth TX. Decent run, going through a lot of highways I've never been... Was thinking of taking 80-25 but if wy is acting up, don't want to risk being late for going out of route.. in summer it would've been the best.. gonna get to see Moab UT hopefully it's beautiful -
Moab (and Cuba, NM) .... the only way to go on that run. Keep your camera handy. I could fuel in Ogden and make it to the Flying J in Tye, TX in my '15 truck. But now that they've done away with most of the preferred stops, you don't need to stretch it that far. They did not add a Lampasas, TX drop? They were thinking a Lampasas drop might become a regular thing earlier this year.
Stop at the cafe NW of Dove Creek, CO. Good food and awesome pies.
Ample truck parking in Monticello, UT / A little at The Bloomfield, NM 550 Junction / and plenty at the casino north of Cuba, otherwise not much parking between Green River And AlbuquerqueDharok Thanks this. -
Thank you. I see a lot of blue stops, you say there used to be more? Dang lol. I always try to fill up in them. I want to do the right thing so we don't get forced fuel stops like in the megas lol
-
Yes. The October 2015 book had at least twice as many blue stops as the May 2016 book I currently have. (I'm not sure if they've issued a Fall 2016 book or not)
Currently still in Cheyenne. Road is closed both directions between Laramie and Rawlins. I'm hoping will reopen some time later this morning [not too long after sunrise]. -
From what I just looked at it looks like more snow is coming because it's snowing in Salt Lake and Evanston right now
-
Yes, I saw that. but hoping roads won't be too bad by the time I get over into SW Wyoming later today. Was planning to get over to Twin Falls once they reopen but will have to wait and see. I have some cushion on this load but if I can run good next 2 days, I could theoretically squeeze in a restart and maybe snag a hot Trader Joes load out to east coast to make it out of northwest before the next system.

The APU must be functional and here is a interactive map with what states allow. And it's that much more to gross weight as welll, besides axle weight.
