Here is my situation:
I acquired my CDL A in 1998/1999 - it's been too long to remember exactlyI drove local flatbed, dry van, and inter-modal containers, and did some regional (out M-F) dry vans and flatbed for about 7 years total. So I have some experience in the industry BUT I have not driven commercially in almost 10 years. I have always kept my CDL and medical card up to date. I am planning on taking a CDL course here locally at my expenses to get back into the industry, there is a grant in my state that will pay for most of the full 4 week course that would make it cheaper than a "refresher" course. I live in VA about 65 miles east of Roanoke, 60 miles south of Charlottesville, 120 miles west of Richmond. I'm looking at TMC line-haul for the weekend home time. M-F is about as long as I want to be out regularly. I'm also looking at McElroy for the same reasons. Does anyone have any firsthand recommendations of good companies that could get me home in my area. I'm thinking flatbed as I like some of the unique aspects of that side of the industry, but am open for suggestions. Thanks for reading this long thread....LOL.
