I have a very good feeling we are getting ready to experience a very strong"reverse downward trend" in the economy. Just wanted to make sure before I started throwing around phrases like that myself.![]()

I'm seriously interested in knowing what the nickname they have for me is. I have earned it at least..... -
Lol that "bonus" is a joke. What is it, 2 cents per mile minus whatever you got on your performance metrics? So 80% performance would be 1.6 cents per mile. So subtract the forced per diem "service fee" of 2 cents per mile, and you're only paying Schneider 0.4 cents per mile for your money!

I'm being cautiously pessimistic myself. I think the recent stock market gains have more to do with the massive amounts of idle cash that the Big Boys have been sitting on for the last year. Whatever the results of the there was going to be a bump because uncertainty is alleviated.
If Trump convinces Congress do to another stimulus package without increasing government revenues then we'll see 1-2 good years and then the bottom will fall out. See Kansas and Wisconsin.
If Congress can effectively tackle our corporate tax code so it aids small businesses and makes mega corporations pay their fair share then things are looking up. I dont think its likely given that Congress has agreed on the basics for almost two decades and just can't agree on who will take credit. Or some schmuck gets a rider giving a tax break to Rat Milk farmers.
I am unsure how much true growth is left in the tech sector. I think it needs a couple of years of slow growth to stabilize internal structure to avoid MBA's Gone Wild a la Enron and MCI.
Commodity supplies are still very high relative to demand. Even taking coal regulations back to 1916 won't drop the cost low enough to open more mines.
Productivity is still rising, eliminating more and more basic jobs. We're producing the same amount of steel as in 1980 but with 50% of the workforce. That trend is expanding to other industries rapidly. This will expand the number of "unemployable" workers. People that could work an assembly line job for 30 years no problem but don't have the intelligence or skills to work independently.
Emerging economies (Poland/eastern Europe, India) are becoming able to compete in almost all economic sectors, thus threading American market share. This may encourage some in our government to enact protectionist trade regulations. There is a time and place for them but blanket protectionism will stagnate the economy. See Ireland 1925 to 1965.
I'm not rushing out to buy a fallout shelter just yet. I am however starting to survey my land to find the best spot for it.mxpx148, TennMan, milehunter43 and 2 others Thank this. -
I hope and pray Congress will not pass another stimulus bill. I for one have had enough of big government telling me it knows best how to spend my money. Once again (see last eight years).
The tax code is simple. It's called a fair tax. The rich already pay more than their fair share. Everyone should pay something. Ask someone from a socialist or communist country how paying a fair share for the common good worked out.
As the great Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher famously said "The problem with socialism is eventually you run out of other people's money".
I am coming out of my fallout shelter. If you find a place on that piece of land for it I have one for sale. The past 8 years of regulations and big government nonsense left me feeling beat down. It's good to feel optimistic again. Almost feels like morning in America again.
As far as coal , tech, and steel go, it's not up to the government to decide winners and losers. Capitalism should.TennMan, Home_on_wheels, drvrtech77 and 2 others Thank this. -
Just I light hearted ideological disagreement of course. I envy the guys who get to train with you. I truly mean this.
AM14 and gentleroger Thank this.
