So the lady and I are looking into leasing somewhere and getting onto the road together (I've done it before, she never has but would just be a passenger) and I would love to find a way to be mobile once we stop somewhere for a bit. I feel like I have seen motorcycles tucked behind sleepers before and I just wonder how this is accomplished? For those of you taking bicycles with you, where/how are you storing these? We are currently living in an area that suffers from a 25% unemployment rate and I am sick of having to drive an hour each direction to get to an area where I can make a decent income and then driving home again after a 10-12 hour day. We are looking to sort of "trim the fat" on our lifestyle right now by getting rid of cars that have payments and renting a room out in our home. I've done the OTR thing as a company driver in the past and have been a successful O/O in a local dump trucking venture so I am not completely new to all of it. Basically we are just looking for a new adventure together and for a way to get out and see the world a bit and figure out where we are going to leave CA for. It would be really nice to be able to unload a motorcycle and go explore areas a bit on downtime without having to rely on public transportation to do so. Any advice and input any of you can offer is greatly appreciated!
Anyone toting a scooter/motorcycle around with them? How about bicycles?

I am an avid motorcyclist.. I have toured on my motorcycle and unless I have to take a cage that is my choice of transportIon.. rain or Shine, hot or cold, I still prefe to ride.. so, I too would love to take one of my bikes with me..
The first thing to consider, is the weight.. having your motorcycle with you takes away from the load you can carry.. so if your bike weighs 500 lbs that is 500lbs you can load.. however, they may not be an issue at all .. but something to consider.. would.t want to not get a load because you are already carrying added weight..
If I were to take one of my bikes, I would opt to take my sporty.. as it is the smallest and lightest bike I own.. but, I would
not be taking a passenger, and the small bike is comfy for me, 5'2 and 130 lbs...
My next consideration would be how often will I really be able to use it.. because if not often, then maybe just renting a small car for the day or weekend would make more sense... Also, you can rent motorcycles too..
I am certain it can be and is done... I have seen pictures..Diesel997 Thanks this. -
make sure you check rider policy when considering lease options. the insurance companies are really getting strict about riders, many companies won't allow it.
Behind the sleeper would probably be best with some type of ramp setup as long as you have adequate wheelbase/room for such. It's gonna kill your fuel mileage though if pulling a van. I know a guy with a conestoga stepdeck who keeps one towards the rear of the trailer, works for him but he then only pulls loads which don't require that space. With a 48' trailer it's possible to mount something to the back, but then you need it to be removeable for bumping docks, etc... so there are some options.
bicycles are easy, just get a rack and strap it on. -
I wouldn't be getting anything like a Goldwing to throw on there, it would likely be an enduro bike or something similar. Maybe the way to go would be to just start with a bicycle and go from there. There was a recent thread here with a lot of speculation and not much actual information, seems like there could be money made here with some sort of kit setup.

Sorry for more speculation
but I know the company I worked for started to sell a mountain bike that folds up...similar to this though I don't know what brand they sold: http://www.amazon.com/Folding-Mountain-Foldable-Bicycle-Shimano/dp/B00635KAH4
You could probably put a few mounts on the back of the sleeper and put them there. -

I seen on on the back of the sleeper. The driver had a winch on a swinging boom attached to his exaust stack bracket. He had the bike wrapped up with light tarp, Said road grim was bad hauling it in that spot. I seen racks on the front of trucks that rotated each end up or down to unload bike. pull a pin and just roll off either way. But I'm sure it had to be unloaded to open hood. I never talked to those drivers so I can't know any details on that one.

I just saw a guy (assuming here) on the NJ turnpike pulling a reefer, his own because it had a devil head logo on the back with " In me I trust" in big print. Well I guess he had an extended frame because there was a bad ### Sportster facing forward and upright between the truck & trailer. Man I wish I could have gotten a picture. Maybe he doesn't travel that far and just hoses the bike off but I'm sure he had a crane or some way of getting that baby down . Now my 700 lb Dyna- that might be different, and I probably don't want it exposed to all that truck - road cra# but man it looked sweet .
