Get a job hauling produce. They'll hire you, I know three guys that hired on to haul apricots and tomatoes at 18.

There are several that you could try.

Lumber yards. The places where real building contractors go.
    Brick yards.
Any type of warehouse and distribution center (they may need a yard dog...at the very least, it will get your foot in the door at a place that has trucks, so even a fork truck position can open into something else)

I got a job at 18 at MidAmericaEntertainmentCompany. They set up stages for concerts, fat cat parties, and rings for the big wrestling events. It was Class B and it was a start. I also joined the County Rescue. They will train you and you do have to qualify to drive their emergency vehicles (EVOC). It's really hard getting started, especially when you're like me and wanting avoid going to any school. They're going to reject you and reject you and reject you and give you all kinds of reasons, that's why I do admonish taking a non driving position at a warehouse to get your foot in the door. That's what I did to avoid any schooling.

    Luck in battle.

What part of CA? I know some that would hire new drivers to run local. It's not amazing pay but your only 18 so 30k may be a lot to you...

I have to agree with you. I enlisted in the Army at 17 because that was pretty much my only option for driving. I grew up in Delaware. Not a lot of Intrastate driving there, one wrong turn and you're in A different State LOL.

I was perfectly fine running missiles through the Alps during winter in Germany, but couldn't be trusted to haul a load of toilet paper the 35 miles from Delaware to Philadelphia.

The age impediment does rob our industry of many potential employees.
