Werner is a good company

    Well I was going go to swift,but they told me they are not hiring in Florida.So I called werner,they will take me in.Yes I have heard good and bad about them but I gotta start somewhere.The best thing about it,I was going to take a cdl-a refreasher program,but werner told me that would'nt be needed.So ill will save about $1700 bucks which would have cost me if I went for a refreasher program.I know that I wouldn't be making much money at first,but its a start.I look at it this way,get my training out of the way,do about 6 months with werner and if everything gos well ill stay with werner.Correct me if im wrong,what I have seen most of the good companys wants people with at leese 6 months exp.Some are 1 year like if I want to do local.I have look into local driving but you need at leese 1 year exp or more.So I will try werner and see how it gos.

    Werner hires anyone and anything that can put a foot on the gas peddle. Why? They pay crap!!!!! No home time either, very rare. And their logo is, "Werner Cares." No they do not. They only care about the big wigs and getting the money and giving it to them, not the ones who are out there driving the gig rigs and have families.

    Becouse of one person bad exp with werner does not mean it happens to everyone.If you go to there web site there a page where you can see what loads are out there,and yes most of them are under 1,000 miles.I know they suck but when you got bills that can reach to the sky,you have no choice.I al ready know I will get crap at first,but if you prove to your dm that your a worker,you will get the loads.I been around trucking for few years know but it will be my first time as a driver,so I know what go on in trucking.Im not looking to make $700 or $800 a week at first.Yeah I know I will start off around $400 + a week but more what im making know($0).Im not plaining to stay to long I just want to get the training and get at leese 6 months exp out of the way.Its very hard to find a good company that pays and treats there drivers good that take in newbes.I know they don't care,no employer cares about there employee.I know I will get the sh#t end of the stick,but thats life.My dad always used to say,start from the bottom,and work your way up.I hate the fact that im going be away from a lot,but its only for a short time.Im plaining to do a year in otr and after an year get a local job.I spent the last year trying to find an local job here in my home state,but most of them you have to have at leese 1 year exp or more.Im not plaining making werner my career,just a starter company.I read post and spoke to drivers who said the companys like werner,swift,etc are just good for roockies to get there foot in the door and get some exp so you can go to a better company.I argree with you, but I need to do something.Been sitting on my cdl-a over a year now and no one wanted to give me brake unless I take a cdl-a refresher program.Which would had cost me $1500-$1700 buck which don't have.I don't have any kids right now,so right now otr is best thing to do.I do have a girlfreind,but she can care less how long im away,LOL.Thanks for the comments.

    I do understand what you are saying and you are right. I am his girlfriend and I manage all the finances around here and more comes out of me, because his is diddly. 15 years driving experience and they blackballed him from other jobs. Yes, I am fuming. The runs are not long and the cpm is terrible but he likes the job and right now I can only say that I am glad he is gone!

    Amen Bigarmin88. I am also going to Werner leaving on Tuesday for Allentown, PA. Ideally I would have liked a local job, but don't have the experience to get the local. Who knows what may happen, I may like it there and stay, but the worse that will happen is I'll get my experience and move on. For those who are happy with the company they are with I am truly happy for you and only hope that us new drivers can be as fortunate.

    Well, I got some news. Werner sux! Yes, BIGTIME!!! My b/f just got fired from Werner for idling. They said it was company policy not to idle. Well, he never signed any papers to this affect and they werent doing this when he was hired. I got a call into a lawyer, OSHA, the American Trucking Industry. It is illegal to fire him for a company policy that was not in affect when he was hired and when it was made he wasnt given papers to sign. As long as he was compliant with the states laws that he was in, he is ok and Werner is at fault. Now on with this work I am doing to help him.

    That sucks:biggrin_25512:,but how do you know if maybe he got fire for other reasons too??? I dont think they would just fire him for idling.I bet there is other reasons he was fired.They know you need to idled to keep the heat on during winter time.I know they want drivers to keep idliing down to 60% or something like that.

    The only idling restrictions I have seen posted are for Wal-Marts and certain terminals (especially CA, but they have idle areas) not to mention state jurisdictions.

    I'm not sure when Werner flips the switch to enable the 5 minute idle shut-off but I would think it's when there is an APU installed. If your b/f idles the entire time he is off duty (to constitute more than 50%) then he would have recieved a message/warning on the Q/C regarding his idle time (you can also scroll to look at your idle time on the Q/C) As for what he signed, there was a lot of stuff we signed in orientation and I can't recall if there was anything regarding the issue or not, but I can tell you we get kool-aid messages regarding different issues, i.e. idling, space management, excessive speed, etc almost daily. It looks like he might have just skipped past it. But honestly, I'm in Bigarmin88's camp here, I think there might be some other circumstances regarding his dismissal and it could even be that he ignored warnings and could have been written up previously. What ever it may be, I'm sure Werner has a plethora of information to back up their cause.

    They told him flat out that it was for idling. Werner does not care about their drivers at all. How about the 2 that just died in their employ, one in AZ and one in Ca for idling? Well, what are you suppose to do when it is 90 degrees outside? Well, OSHA says it is a vile complaint because health is at risk. There were no other reasons for them firing him. He had over 15yrs with them. And he only went through a 1 day orientation and he signed no papers.

    Thank you for the luck. This is alot of work but With all that I get into I want to fight them because I rode with him for 4 months and I experienced their treatment and it is terrible!!!!!
