I guess you meant career where you said carrier...?

What makes you think trucking is for you?
Do you have the financial reserves to pay for your own schooling? ($10,000 will cover it)
Where are you located in Ontario and what kind of trucking are you considering? - as in, home daily, day time runs or flexible schedule, do you want to do long haul to western Canada/USA/Texas/etc. or perhaps a dedicated route? Maybe one night out and then return home? Tankers? Flatbeds? Heavy haul? Refrigerated? Auto parts? Dump trucks? Cement trucks? Deliver shingles/building supplies? Lots of options. Just gotta figure out what your motivation is and what might be a good fit for your situation.

What the hell did I ramble on about up there?

If you are crossing the border doing any form of auto parts you will need a FAST card. I am not sure if the US accepts enhanced DL. I never do auto parts and just use my passport.

Not just auto parts. Makes crossing any shipment easier.

I have a different experience. When I had a fast card with a non fast load if I forgot to seal it or any of the 20 other ridiculous questions you get and they threaten to take it away as if that is some form of punishment. Now I don't get any of that. I have no need for their program. They claim to haul you in less if you have it, that is not true. I do not get hauled in any more than when I had the card.

All depends on the port you cross at I guess.

One doesn't "need" a FAST card, but to cross the border one does need either a passport, a passport card, or an enhanced D/L that verifies citizenship from a state that does offer them.....

If you have a Fast Card and your company is Fast approved ,you can use the fast lane with a empty trailer. If you are loaded and that load is not from a Shipper that is also Fast approved. You cannot go through the Fast lane.

You're right and almost there, but actually the shipper & consignee both need to be C-TPAT approved, along with the driver and carrier both FAST approved to use the designated "FAST" lane with a loaded trailer....

But like I said, one doesn't "need" a FAST card to simply cross the border with a commercial truck, loaded or M/T....
