I was driving through Texas last night about 2 in the morning and saw a truck on the shoulder with the triangles up behind it and for some reason I thought it may be that driver ran out of hours and threw out the triangles so he or she and could get a break in. I've had to cut it close a few times and luckily found a parking spot with about 2 minutes left on my 11 hour clock. Just wondering the weirdest place you've had to stop and stay in compliance with the hours of service.
Craziest place you've ever had to take a DOT mandated break

I was driving along the 189 in northeastern AZ through the Navajo Nation. It was time to shut down and the only place I could find was one of those rest-area-ish/pull-out areas alongside a canyon. Nice views, no one to knock on the doors, and I was sold.
Of course it was nearing the end of the ten and I was about to walk around outside and enjoy the view for a bit. The minute I throw clothes on and pull back my curtains, I'm surrounded by cars and some flea-market/swap meet style displays. Apparently, the local Navajo craftspeople set up shop all around my parked truck and went about their wares selling!!
I told them I had to move in a little bit and even bought some sort of necklace off of one of the vendors for their troubles. I must've been sleeping pretty deep to not hear any commotion outside of the truck beforehand.
But at the same time, it was cool that they didn't knock.
On another note, I often wonder if "knocking" will be some sort of "triggered" thing for truckers long after they've left the truck.Sublime, QuietStorm, Midnightrider909 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Knock on my #### truck when the curtains are drawn and don't have a badge. I used to get the same way when people rang the doorbell. I haven't really taken a break at a weird (to me) place, but i have woken up going "where the hell am i?"

Not so much as crazy, just the situation that comes your way.
First was a regular sleep spot wake up surrounded by a carnival being built. They did leave me a path to get out. Second was a truckstop off 80 taken over by the military to accomodate a divisional infantry march. We were told to beat it. Our lot now. So they cleared us all out. They wanted the room.
The craziest was a intersection in a ice storm waiting for the hours next day and loading in Miss. I was the only one moving mostly that day.QuietStorm Thanks this. -

Literally right at the state line of AZ / UT on the US89. Lost a lot of time due to WX issues and being pretty dang heavy. If I had like 30min I could have made the scale house just over the line in AZ
