I only ever had my passport when I was crossing into the US. Never had any issues. Was hauling specialized flatbed however. None of our loads were FAST approved so it did not make a difference.

I got my passport last summer after my brother moved to the Niagara Falls area (I live in MI) It was mainly so I could cut across Ontario. I specifically got the passport so my employer does not know I can cross the border. If they ever start paying more for those runs I'll inform them, but as-is it's more a hassle than it's worth.

I wouldn't recommend the enhanced DL unless you want a bit of time off when it needs to be renewed.

Renew an Enhanced Driver's Licence
Required Information:
A new signature and photo will be taken. You must surrender your Enhanced Driver's Licence card at your visit. You will receive a temporary driver's licence to use until your new Enhanced Driver's Licence card arrives by secure delivery. A temporary driver's licence is not acceptable for entry into the United States.

Not disputing you, just sayin' what I've been using since 9/11. I cross mostly west, Sweetgrass and such.
