Hey guys I recently started trucking. I have to see my doctor every 3 months to keep getting my medication. There is no chance I'll be able to coordinate seeing her. The industry is just too unpredictable. Do you have any advice about how I can see a doctor while OTR? I really need to continue using my meds. Hope you guys had a great Christmas! Be safe!

It will help if you described your medicine.

That will usually show the reason you are taking a specific medicine.

I am retired but I visit my doctor every few months or monthly to maintain my Pain Medication which will most definitely bar me from driving. (Schedule two) big trucks.

Trucking does not get you home regularly unless you hire onto a company that has regional home weekly or local home every night.

You can't be 100% sure you will hit all of those appointments. When I was OTR my doctor was good about working me in when I was on home time. Because of this I never made them.

Quit otr or find another doctor.

Seriously, find a doctor's office that will work with your schedule. You pay your insurance to get the health care you need. When a doctor tells you no and to do things their way, I say f em. Find another doctor that will prescribe what you need not what they think you need.

Don't forget that it's your subscription to your healthcare network that pays for their Mercedes.

I don't understand what the problem is. You request a date to be home. That company is supposed to get you there when you request. Doesn't matter if you're OTR, local, regional, whatever.

If they can't get you home when you want, may be time to look at another carrier.

Hometime is something that NO ONE interferes with.

Whether I was company driver, lease, OTR, regional....I have NEVER MISSED A TARGET DATE TO BE HOME in over 16 years, and I go home every month. If you allow them to give you excuses then that's on you my friend.

Most of the time my fleet manager was good to get me home on time. Sometimes though I got home on that date but it was late in the day. Most of the time I was loaded when I came home with an Atlanta metro area delivery. If I could not get the local driver to deliver the load I had to do it. If however I was out of hours or had an important reason the company made the local driver do it.

I take high blood pressure medicines (2 actually) with 90 day bottle. Comes with 3 refills usually. I use walgreens as the pharmacy. When i get down to a week supply i start looking for a walgreens to refill. When all refills are done then i call doc office for more refills till he says no more till i go see him.

That doesn't make sense, because if you have a three month checkup on any issue, maybe this is not the job for you.

You can do this in some cases. However if a driver is a type 2 diabetic with control taking pills some doctors won't refill if you don't do the labs. My doctor was always good to work with me around my home time and he would refill my meds even if I could not get home. I remember once my sister got my refills and shipped them overnight to my fleet manager and he held them a day or two for me.
