I've read the last 5 pages of this thread to kind of get a feel for what DHT offers and looked on their site as well. I have a couple of questions that may have been answered in earlier posts so please forgive me. How does home time work within the company? I'm guessing it is percentage based going off of an earlier post that said they'd run hard all month and then take 6-8 days off to maintain bonus and miles. I've come across most drivers want to be home every week. My only previous position I was considered a regional driver with a home weekly plan. However, what I found worked best for me would be to run a good 7-8 days then reset at home. Basically during the week sometime for the minimum 34 hours. Then run 9-10 days to come home on a Friday or close to that to get a full weekend off and come back on Monday. Usually being a little over 50 hours on this break. Doing this I was able to maintain an over 80% time at home percentage and get close to, and sometimes over, 3k miles a week in the slowest governed trucks on the road lol. My question is, is this type of running available with DHT?
Secondly, it sounds like the pay is lower in cpm and bonus structure higher to enhance production in drivers vs it just being an added bonus. Am I understanding this right? Personally, I kind of like that type of system. I had argued with my previous company that their pay structure and bonus was designed to accept (can't think of better word right now) mediocrity. Meaning that a driver that excelled in many areas was not compensated other than what the average driver was. Just based on the talk in here it sounds like DHT has a system that encourages the harder worker or better driver. Is that correct and would yall agree?
I had actually talked to a DHT driver while we were both loading in Laredo TX about 3 months ago. He talked highly of the company. He loved his truck. He spoke highly of the office. I think he had said he was retiring that week. But could be confusing him with someone else. I had arrived right before him and backed into a tight dock. He had a little more of a tight space so I helped him back in. But after he docked he had praised me for backing in with no help. Was surprised when I said I had only been driving for 3 months. I think I just got lucky hitting it right lol. I thought he had said that a year experience was required at the time. I see now it's 3 months. Has it changed or was I wrong?
Any terminals or drop lots near Memphis?
Is that a good area to get loads out and in to?
Mostly drop and hook? Or a rough percentage of live vs d&h?
Dry van, reefer or hazmat divisions also?
I know a lot of questions. Thanks in advance.spooky-tooth and DRAGON64 Thank this. -
FYI, Ohio is in hiring area and they will take new CDL grad; training program is 300 hours. Run SW and SE; no NE or NW.
DRAGON64 Thanks this. -
Depending on where you live can help with home time.. if you're in the travel lanes you can be home often! Dallas, El Paso, Tucson, Yuma, SoCal, Amarillo, OKC, St. Louis, Louisville.
I run hard make my bonus and go home. Sometimes I'll go home just before bonus if I am leaving before months end and that dispatched load puts me over the top.
I live in Phoenix. We don't travel through Phoenix as often but I am usually home to sleep in my bed twice a month outside of home time. Sometimes more, sometimes it doesn't work out.
This company heavily rewards people who work hard. That's why turnover is lower then most and we have a lot of 10, 15, 20++ year drivers...
If you are in Memphis that area is also good. We go through there 40% of our loads I would say.. easy to schedule a break when passing through -
How are things going for you so far, are the trucks equipped with fridges and are they keeping you moving?
