Hey "rookie." I'm a tanker driver, if you have any questions shoot them my way. There is a certain method of handling these vehicles that is different from what you're gonna learn in truck school. You will probably do most of your learning in the field. Just take your turns much slower than you think you need to (this is especially true for 5MPH, 90 degree turns at stoplights and intersections..) Never try to "beat the light" on a turn arrow, and if you're not sure how fast you should take your turn on a freeway, a safe bet is to cut that speed in half. Remember, the posted speed limit isn't for Class A vehicles.
Also remember, one of the greatest joys of trucking is driving really slow for reasons of "safety", and watching the queue of 46 angry cars behind you in your mirror. They'll flash their lights at you, they'll flip you off as they pass you on a two-lane double-solid road. Take pride in the fact that you contributed to the ruining of some idiot's day.lovetwodrive, rhouston24, USMC 3531 and 4 others Thank this. -

True for now, but there is talk they are going to change it back to 1 year. I've seen a few cringe worthy drivers here lately.Chinatown Thanks this.

Great advice from Moloko. He is 1000% right. That's both articulated (semi) and straight truck. And if you are half full that surge is wicked! I'm dry bulk tankin' now, but man when I worked in the gas patch and had to haul drill mud, it was a real treat on WV, PA and OH back roads!

Thsts crazy

True tho

Really great advice from moloko and he is dead nuts on in his statement, I have 18 years total behind the wheel doubles triples experience with ltl dry van freight, and none of it could prepare me for what I just transitioned into recently which is hauling sulfuric acid in a non baffled tanker, it's a completely different way of driving and even with it just being one trailer the truck does handle alot differently because of the surge, I am a rookie all over again learning something new.
rhouston24 and moloko Thank this.
