If you can not stop safely , drive through a deer. It's life is not worth putting your or others lives in danger.

I was watching Season 4 episode 2 of Highway Thru Hell and I know some of this is made for TV I get it, but they had a wreck where a truck went in the ditch straight into the woods and, the trailer split in half and I'm sure half the cargo inside was damaged, most of the stuff was consumer goods, it was a general merchandise dry van load.

Anyhow the rep for the trucking company was onsite to watch the whole thing and a salvage crew showed up and there trying to clean up the mess and they did, took two days and rightly so, then at the same time though the TV is going "The reps there and this job has to get done right now!"
Why? What would it matter, the trailer is split in two the trucks got a tree through it's cab, none of it can be used and what cargo was in the trailer has been unloaded and hauled away, your not using that truck again and that trailer is bound for the scrap heap. Obviously it can't sit there in the woods and the tow truck company wants to get paid so they will get it out, but the tractor and trailer are both complete losses isn't going to matter.

I'm in the middle of Season 2. A couple of times I have heard Jamie say, Oh well, the customer doesn't want to break the seal.
Well, if the customer doesn't want the seal broken, don't put the trailer 50 ft down in the ditch. Lol

The biggest reason for the right now hustle is environmental. The longer the wrecked truck sits in the woods the higher the likely hood of fluid leaks or the greater the damage to the environment from the fluids already spilled. Also, some of that cargo is salvagable if it is not exposed to the elements, that is where stores like Job-Lot and Odd-Lot get some of their merchandise. Also in most areas there are rules compelling the owner to remove the debris as soon as possible.

One notable difference from the show up north and how we do it in the lower 48, down here the towing company is usually responsible for the entire job, cargo, spill cleanup, wreck removal, and site remediation (grass, landscaping, etc) whereas it seems on the Coq the highway maintenance contractor and/or local government handles many of those functions.

That's the first thing they teach you in defensive driving. In the car/light truck portion they actually say to let of the brake before impact to bring the front end up. In theory this helps reduce the chance of the deer coming through the windshield.

I must say I do enjoy Al Quiring's sense of humor, I do think it's great how he's always making some kind of wise crack.

That is funny as well, Al is good at what he does though, I find it impressive how he coaches the guys a lot of times out of situations without having to tow them in a truck at all.

    Ruthless and alghazi Thank this.

I'm sure Werner had plenty of freight to feed that place LoL. Those guys even have their own fleet of wreckers just to move damaged trucks back to HQ for repairs.
