Back to School

Well, well, well...some of this will reiterate what I've already written in these pages, but I don't care because this is my thread.

Some of you know my history - I got my CDL locally at age 18 and have been in the business for over 26 years now. I'm extremely happy with my grocery delivering gig, but my plan is to give up driving in the next 7-10 years or so....

"Pintlehook, 10 years is a long time..." YES, yes it is a LONG time, but life goes by quickly. I've put some things in place for retirement already, I own a few rental houses and I invest and save money every week, so my financial future is finally coming together.

Anyway, my company offers online courses to earn an Associate's Degree FREE OF CHARGE to the employee, providing you maintain a "C" average. An Associate's most likely won't help me land a premier job, but I figure any edge I can get will help. My problem is that I have no idea what I'll do with that Business Degree, I always kind of wanted to sell real estate or cars. But now I'm thinking a nice warehouse supervisory position with Banker's hours would work....who knows.

What do you guys think? Is this a waste of time? I'm already committed to doing it, just wanted some input on my decision. Again, it's free of charge, so I have nothing to lose.

 

@duckdiver I'm look to BOTH further my education and leave trucking behind. It's been a financially rewarding career thus far, but I'm tired of the odd hours. Of course I'll need to suck it up for a few more years, I want to get the kids completely through college before I make a move. The credits I'm taking are transferable to a 4 year University.

As far as the RN thing, no thanks. No doubt that it's a rewarding career, but nurses earn their money with mostly odd hours like I have now. I'm sure some of them can land a lucrative day time gig, but I don't deal well with illness or injury.

 

Funny thing is that I'm not exactly sure what my end goal will be. Like @Oor suggested, Real Estate always seemed to be an option. It's taken me a long while, but my rentals cash flow and have turned a modest profit for the last 7 or 8 years.

Selling cars is definitely an interest, but a person wouldn't necessarily utilize any type of secondary education to do that.

Building Management would work, preferably in a warm climate!

I also like the idea of owning/managing a small retail grocery store, but it would also have to be in the "right" area. A food dessert in an affluent community would be ideal...and non existent! So, I'd settle for a small town niche place with plenty of traffic...

And by the way, I hate Papa Johns Pizza! Lol.
