You should go tanker. You don't want to wrap yourself into the pains and aches of reefer work right away. Tanker is.. a good fit for newbies who are generally slow with shifting and cautious. Most of time that liquid beating said newbie as it moves around serves as a further reinforcement when mistreated with bad driving. You only get better.
My two cents anyhow. A monkey can drive a truck particularly with dry van, but monkeys get bored you see? Tanker, flat and heavy haul is a higher form of trucking and will engage your mind better with problem solving without being bored.
Never mind credit, dont even use that word. What you really want is a couple thousand dollars in cash ready to go at any time, Trucking is feast and famine. When the Trucker gets hungry and borrows against payroll, that trucker will not be a part of our industry too long. They will be eliminated as literal parasite or liability to the company. -
Pay out of pocket for your own schooling if you can. If you're that age and have good credit I'm assuming you've been responsible enough to have some money in the bank. It's a little chunk of change but you don't want to be on the hook as an indentured servant for a year to some bottom feeder outfit who'll chase you for the money and wreck your credit if you leave early. Many company's will offer tuition re-reimbursement anyway if you give them the paperwork they need.

I think I like this idea....you completely raised my next question about whether going tanker first was a better idea....Also, if I go with a company like Trimac will I get the all weather driving experience. Since I live in Florida I am concerned that I wont get that all weather driving experience. Does it hurt my marketability?

I was concerned about going tanker initially because I was curious about how often wives really want to come along for the road trips. I like the idea of making better money while I am out rather than going reefer or dry van thinking the wife may eventually come for a ride. I do believe tanker is the right way to go at this point. Most posts I have come across seem to show that wives generally aren't interested in tagging on the road.

Not necessarily. Mine gave up federal employ or escaped rather to join me in running around the USA> Im glad we did it. It was good for us. Not necessarily good the whole time. We got away with it. But it had to stop due to obesity setting in for her and medical issues for me.Lifechange05 Thanks this.
