Knowing the State of Illinois if anyone dies as a result of this accident they can add vehicular manslaughter charges to the mix. Hopefully everyone who was injured will make it through but I can guarantee you the attorneys are gonna have a field day with this.Big Don Thanks this.

I'm interested to see what they pull from the day cab's black box to see how fast the fast the driver was going prior to impact. In Illinois 21 mph above the posted speed limit is considered reckless driving.

Oh yeah, somebody's gonna make some big bucks off this! Most likely the lawyers...
And you are correct on the vehicular manslaughter charge. -
One poster counted, and said he was travelling 71' per second, which he said is 48 mph which is either 7 or 12 under, I don't remember where it switches from 55 to 60, but I think this is past it.

Since this happened in Sept I'm wondering if the person that was taken to the hospital in critical condition survived?
Two things I do whenever I'm stopped in the traffic lanes whether I'm stopped for a red light or a traffic backup are watch your rearview mirror & leave enough room between you & the vehicle ahead of you so you can pull out of the lane to the right or left if someone is coming up behind you & loooks like they may not stop in time. I've had to pull out of my lane twice in my four wheeler, once where the car didnt stop & slammed into the car that was in front of me which would have been me hadnt I pulled out of the way & the other time the ___hole skidded but stopped in time.Last edited: Dec 30, 2016
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
If memory serves, I294 is 60 mph for all traffic from Willow Rd (maybe a bit further south) north, and that speed limit continues up through the state line on I94 west. It's 70 mph in Wisconsin.

It's 65 for cars, 60 for trucks to the state line.
