One of my customers is requesting that I pull his trailer to deliver to him near Calgary. Are there any special rules about pulling a Canadian registered trailer? Or can I just add it to my insurance and have at?

If it is originates in the us, you can.

If it is in Canada and going to Canada stop, you can't.

You must have a written agreement stating the value of the trailer so the insurance company knows how much they are on the hook for on a claim. Always keep your insurance company aware of what is happening. Also address the issue of a backhaul, how much if any the trailer owner should be paid if a return load is transported. Make sure inspection and registration is current. There is a trailer interchange form to inspect at start and end of transaction. Available from jj keller.

Bison Transport from Canada has several US carriers moving their trailers.

USF Holland uses Speedy Transport trailers like they are there own property. Heck I thought Holland bought out Speedy Transport, that's how often I see them pulling there trailers.

As previously mentioned, some carriers have offices in the U.S. & Canada, employ both CA & US drivers and have US&CA plated equipment....

The kicker is, what office pays you depending on your citizenship/work status, as there are some foreign nationals that have "US work status"....P2P (point-to-point) delivery is a no-go by a foreign driver....A CA paid driver cannot legally pick-up US goods in the US and deliver in the US, just as a US paid driver cannot pick-up in CA and deliver in CA....

Additionally, a CA goods origin loaded trailer being hauled by a CA driver that enters the US (makes US customs entry) cannot be "swapped out" in the US, re-powered by another CA paid driver (US driver ok), and delivered in the US, as that would also constitute a P2P move, as the load is now, after making customs entry, considered "US goods".....

I don't believe the equipment plate matters as long as the carrier has offices in both countries and pay their driver's accordingly...

You do not carry non owned trailer insurance? It insures trailers that you may pull but do not own, no need to add a trailer to your insurance.

Who pays the driver is not relevant; what is relevant is whether the driver is legal to work in the country (and, likewise, the carrier is also legal, but that is much easier and more straightforward process). As a Canadian, I don't have any restrictions working in Canada for a U.S. carrier and being paid by same.

There are some conflicts in cabotage between customs (the vehicle and the shipment) and immigration (the person). Immigration trumps customs when dealing with cabotage and a foreign national.
