This whole argument about "Well if I wear my seatbelt I might get burned alive" is a moot point. If you get into a crash, even just going 55 mph decelerated to dead stop in a fraction of a second equates to a force of 9 to 10 Gs. Meaning you weigh 10 times your body weight in the direction of the last forward motion. Most times that means you're only doing one thing if you're not wearing your seatbelt. Going out the windshield.

Personally, I dont think any goverment should tell me whether i should belt up or not...however, if they are going to anyway it should pertain to all moving vehicles. Every notice the lack of seat belts in school busses?? Here we are good parents buckling up our children everywhere we go, helmets with bikes, knee pads with skateboards....then 7am wave as they walking down the isle of the school bus as its pulling away from our yards.

To start with, school busses are designed differently than other passenger vehicles (seat spacing, padding, etc.). They are also very high visibility and have specific traffic laws that other vehicles must follow when in their vicinity among other passive safety systems. In order for seat belts to work they must be properly fitted to the individual, however this is not a practical possibility in an ordinary school bus environment.

Over the past several decades there have been many, many studies done on seat belt usage in school busses. As far as I know, virtually every one comes to the same conclusion: the current methodology is the safest although they occasionally recommend incremental changes, such as bus colour, additional lights, placement of fuel tanks, etc.

I have been to a school bus accident that was the result of a car that sideswiped the bus on the highway at 55 mph.

The impact did knock some students around and some on the impact side were transported to the hospital, I think. It has been a few years. But I do recall that none were seriously hurt. The impact was lower than where they sit.

I am aware of the definition of "Ignorance"...Look it up in my post and you would see that I have posted the definition once or twice myself.. The issue here as you suggest is not Ignorance but rather it being your actual beliefs.. You believe that that someone who doesn't wear their seatbelt are more apt to comment crimes then someone who does wear their seatbelt.. That is not ignorant but stupid... Before you go cry to a mod and say that I called you stupid I will say I am calling your comment stupid not yourself. You probably are just a victim of your surroundings.. Socialism is in on that side of the country..

So now my belief is stupid not ignorant. That's OK with me.....you can call me anything you want. That's your right. Just like it's your right to break the law and not wear your seatbelt. But to me, it's just stupid not to wear your seatbelt. Doesn't matter if the law says I have too. And I think that folks who feel that they can break the law because it's their right MIGHT use that same rationalization when it comes to other laws. Just my belief. We agree to disagree.....that's both of our rights.

Now please understand I am not calling you stupid because I notice you had put a "me" in there.. I respect your reply because you responded like a decent individual.. That I respect you for and now I know another person who is not completely whacked out on that side of the country.. Most would of responded with a hatred response.. any body who can value "We agree to disagree.....that's both of our rights."and be civil about it is not all that bad in my book...

Well, better call the cops on the granny you see without her seatbelt for she might be on her way to rob a convenience store.

Ya know, there could be some truth to that. Just before I go senile (unless it has happened already :biggrin_2552:) I think I'll turn criminal and knock off a few armed robberies. If I get away with it, fine. If I don't, how bad can the "big house" be when you're already drooling and wearing diapers?
