Replacing the cam on my 95 11.1L, have it out, and the pilot tool is holding the cam drive gear in place so I don't have to re-time it. I'm puzzled by the manual stating I have to adjust the idle lash gear; has anyone dealt with this?

Once you put the cam in, check the lash before you put the rockers on. If it's in spec, you don't have to adjust it, if it's out, adjust it. For a gear lash tool, I use long bolt with a jam nut to hold it snug, then use a dial indicator.

I see-was working from the wrong manual, thought I had to disassemble the gear case, which I am trying to avoid. Thanks.

Do you have the correct manual? If not I can get you the info you need. I also recommend changing the perimeter seal and diamond seal while you're that deep, they are known to leak there. If you haven't yet, I always shove a rag in there. You don't want one of those thrust plate bolts falling into the cover.

I found the correct one-Detroit has amended them so much I just had to sift through them. Thanks though. Didn't have a leak from either the perimeter or diamond, just from the rocker cover gasket.
