On one end of some of my chains, instead of a cotter pin securing the hook pin, I had a snap pin or safety pin so I could pull off the hook or switch to a slip hook from a grab hook.

Got a pic of a safety pin? I've only seen the kind (by that name) that you put thru fabric

Yes thanks. I forgot I had new cotter keys in my coat. And I believe it was you or superhauler suggested running the other style cotter pin

The names change depending on the vendor; snap pin/safety pin...

I knew I wouldn't receive applause for that picture. I sent my employer the same picture. We agreed it was goofy and to get off the property, then if I wanted to throw chains up the road to do so.

My employer has stressed to be careful with new equipment. I specifically asked how the shipper wanted it done. I asked my employer how he wanted it done. I'm not saying that to be argumentative. When I get back to the yard I will ask my employer how he would have used chains so I learn.

Sorry- then that way if my employer is not happy with the shipper then I am not the one doing the arguing. That's how I have been asked to handle situations I am not happy with.

    PeteyFixAll and johndeere4020 Thank this.

For protection of paint on the axles of new equipment,I have sections of old fire dept hose cut into 2 and 3 foot lengths.
Thread your chain thru and your golden.

So boys and girls, make friends with your local fire hall and make a deal to get the the old hoses.:D

I have a bunch of that. Works awesome.

I hauled a load of sod to the Grand Forks ND Air Force base awhile back. I had my truck searched before entering. I had to stand in a building and look through a window and watch them search. They got to my side box with the fire hose cut to length in it and stopped. One of the MP's came and got me. They wanted to know what that was and what I used it for. I explained and they sent me back to my room.
