To the original poster, I believe you are doing things backwards. First decide on a couple of companies that you want to work for. Then find out what schools they hire from. If you want some general information on schools, you could go to www.cretecarrierjobs.com/schools or www.schneiderJobs.com/company-drivers/driving-school-programs.
.
.I am not endorsing either company; just giving you two sample websites to look at.

I decided to go with 160 Driving Academy. I'm glad I made this choice over the local community college because 160's instructors are all certified by the state of Illinois, and at the college, they dont have to be certified, which means a lot as far as Illinois' standards of who should be allowed to have their CDL go.
Today is my 5th day of class, and I passed my CDL written exam for my permit the morning of the third day at the DMV. I was really nervous, because I knew nothing about air brakes or S-Cams or leakage rates, but our instructor gave us as much time as we needed and was willing to work with us until he felt like we were ready to go to the DMV, and I passed all 3 tests the first time. Today and yesterday we learned log books. Assuming everyone gets finished with their final exam after lunch, we're starting pre-trip inspections at the practice lot today.
What I said before was that I would post a list of some of the companies that hire from 160 driving academy.
Averitt
Vitran
Roehl
Boyd Bros
Paschall Truck Lines
Werner
Maverick
Trans Am
USA Trucks
Star
Prime
US Express
Stevens Transport
And there are some more...I'll post them when I can
But I love this school. I'm learning so much, and I'm having a lot fun while doing it. -
That is a miss print. They are about 3500 and I would check out MTI first.

who was your instructor?

Went there and loved it they have job placement with over 30 companies. Before I signed up for the school they got me pre-hired by 5 companies that are well known. When I graduated I went to work that Saturday been driving ever since! Thanks 160 Driving Academy!

Would think twice about that had a friend go there couldn't find a job after words ... You get what you pay for!
-
160 Driving Academy is licensed by the State of Illinois and all their instructors are licensed by the State of Illinois they showed me their license when I went in to talk to the recruiter and she also had me fill out applications for the companies I was interested in so that I had prehire letters in hand by the companies before I even decided to sign up with them!
