Because he wears blinders. He's said it himself before when he mentions other trucking jobs that have a lot harder time than OTR drivers do - he doesn't give a #### because he doesn't do that. He's "happy" so anyone else that isn't is a moron. He's "winning" for his rule set, so he thinks any other point of view is worth nothing. He's "winning" so he looks down on anyone else that isn't set up exactly like him.
His sig has as much value as an apology from a phone company that has over charged you again, for the 6th month in a row.

Because, believe it or not, not everyone is the same.
While you might just walk away from a situation where someone ####s on your head every day, another person is going to find out why they are being #### on and try to make it stop.
While you might be ok with deciding to buy your own truck because company trucks are ####, someone else is going to find out why the company trucks are ####, and try to get them to be maintained like they are supposed to be.
While you might think it's a great idea to start your own company, many other people, in fact the vast majority, do not have the personality to do that, otherwise, there would be no employees, only bosses.
While you or others might be fine to walk away from a broken industry, others might not be interested in walking away from what they feel is broken, but rather, try to fix it from the inside.
In the end, reality holds sway, rose coloured glasses or not. IF the trucking industry looked after the drivers, companies wouldn't be having 100%+ turnover of their drivers. Companies that understand that drivers are people will keep their people. There are tons of ####ty driver jobs, because they are ####ty driver jobs. In the end, trucks will be going full automatic, computer controlled, and therein is the fix for non-stop trucking/money making and finally getting rid of those whiney ##### drivers. Understanding your post was 5 years earlier and there was little/no mention of autonomous trucks, the rest of the negative aspects of trucking haven't changed at all in that passage of time.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
Now, like then, unskilled (by north american rules) workers, who come from depressed economic areas, will come and work over here for a fraction of what they could earn where they come from, so disreputable companies hire them, pay them far less then they would have had to pay a Canadian, and that gives them miles of room to cut every corner they can, while massively undercutting on load rates and STILL make #### loads of money. More companies = more jobs = more tax = good press. No one really cares, not the truckers as evidenced by this thread, how many Canadian jobs are affected. Consumers are 100% oblivious to the fact that their lives are enabled by big trucks burning diesel, and they always will be.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

Necro post, but for future reference I guess. I worked for Seafood for two months before going west. Small company about 50 trucks. Have a lot of drivers that have been there for years and years. Decent company and I never got screwed around by them in any way. Friendly/nice office staff and a small company mentality. Drivers were people too. Hauled some van loads around the island - mainly farming food stuffs/seed, but mainly cans and reefers up and down the east coast of the US. They had a number of triangle runs from the east coast to T.O. and then PQ and back to the island. All newer Freightliners at the time. A couple years back they just started paying for the drivers' TWIC and FAST cards. They took new drivers too. I would recommend at least talking to them. Started at .40 per mile 3 years ago.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

Who did you go to after Paul's?Another Canadian driver Thanks this.
-
Not so. We regularly haul loads in and out of colonies in MB, SK and AB, and take them all over Canada and the US.Another Canadian driver and Nothereoften Thank this.

Cheaper than free labor when combined with the equipment required.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

Aye. The one colony has a day cab for shunting trailers around and possibly some local delivery/pick-up, and they usually have 2 or 3 unmarked trailers there too. Not sure who's they are, but I've never picked any of them. We usually have one or two trailers spotted there. All the colonies I've been to, specialize in a single product, whether livestock or material, and they try to utilize products from other colonies whenever they can to support each other and get a discount.
They've all been pretty laid back, and drink, smoke and swear like anyone else. They just stick to a doctrine of non-violence.Another Canadian driver and Nothereoften Thank this. -
And they carry I phones now too.

What's the deal with Kingsway? Are they a TFI company? How do I apply directly to Kingsway and would I want to?
Another Canadian driver Thanks this.
