Regarding your out of route mileage. Dont be afraid of that.

If you know for a fact route A is a good route without trouble you described on taking route B and running into the other trucker coming on... then let KLLM know that particular routing will get someone killed. in my day routing was where you needed to get between two trees just so. lol.

Stay on top of your NOAA weather radio, it will generally keep you posted on pending winterstorms, winter weather advisories and ice related issues. Every 6 hours it is updated and with tornaoes when necessary to the minute. I know it's boring for some listening to a computer drone on. But that might save you from going sideways or sliding backwards off the big road.

I see Nogales and Laredo a incredibly high threat for knife work. They do not like the white man too much is what I learned from there. I ran out of Eagle Pass which itself is pretty hard to get to, but worth it.

Finally not not least there was a FFE drop lot about 120 miles south and west of San Antonio as the crow flies. You have that is a option.

I try to stay along their route. But that is not always the best idea. I just send them a msg letting them know why I'm out of route. Haven't heard any complaints about it.

I will start paying more attention to noaa. Driving through Birmingham was nothing but ice. That had me amazed. I also carry a pocket knife and soon a taser. Plan on getting my concealed carry but just sucks kllm is against having it on the truck.

Uncle Sam says you can carry with the proper permits etc. But your employer says no. And they will fire you for it.

Simple choice. Do you carry and live or are you sheep without a job?

As long as other states recognize your home state permit you can carry. Like x1heavy said. It's your employer that say no.

@Drpparker95 what would you like to know?

Im kind of concerned about the trucks and pay. I see the pay is .34cpm isn't that low? Does the academy provide transportation to the training

Responded to your pm. When I was just on the otr fleet my take home was between 450-700 on average. My lowest check was im embarrassed to say 270. on this account my take home after taxes 800-1k. Running hazmat loads plays a big factor in that.

Did just a little of 500 miles today. Still 1000 more to go. Had to stop twice due to my placards wanting to fly away. Use a rock and tape to keep it in place. When I took my 30 minute break. I rechecked them. The one in the front slipped away. It's a good thing I keep them. Had an extra 1263. Made sure I put a rock and taped it better. So far still there. Would have less miles to run but I only had 20 minutes left on the clock to make it to a truckstop last night. I made it with only 5 minutes to spare. Took them 4 hrs before they even started loading me. If only they paid detention.
