you need some experience pulling first but call kyle at the questliner (hazmat) office in chicago or call foodliner (food grade) office in chicago also... or just fill out an online application.
i have worked with questliner for just shy of nine years. am not going anywhere. it a company guys retire from.
privately owned, always expanding, but never so fast they dont know your name or care about you. family ethics for reals.
we do it all, short city runs, regional, longhaul...
they will keep you as busy as you want or out as long as you want or home just about nightly.
my first 2 years i was only gone like three nights. now i am gone 1-3. some guys... i see their car in the lot but have never met them... lol they make GOOD money.
standard you get every other weekend off. pay attention, i mean real weekend. come in friday afternoon and see you monday morning weekends. opposite weeks you do the 34 and back out.
i've done 3 resets on the road in nine years... rough week for me; go, go, go... but i got paid to well to complain... lol
i average 1250 a week annually. have done $1600 and we have guys that do that alot. too much work for me.
pay has a strange structuring, miles loaded, empty, accesorial pay, compliance bonus, inspection bonus, detention pay, load and unload pay, wash pay, christmas bonus pay...
oh yeah holiday and sick day pay also.
lots of pay... lol it takes time to learn the customer routes and what the customers want. we are service oriented to what the shipper and receiver needs. your first year is usually spent running around in circles leaving early to get there on time. etc.
we have a very low turnover rate. most guys quit within a few months if they just cant hack the cardinal rules... on time and with a smile. go the extra mile.
those who tough out the learning curve, stay forever.
company rules are plenty but fairly simple. wear your chemsuit when needed (pay extra for that), run a clean log, dont speed, dont roll the truck over etc. be on time or communicate a real problem early. customer wants the load on time but they will take it late over not at all because you wrecked the truck. duh.
if you can conduct yourself as an adult we probably have a place for you. if you are in need of baby-sitting and think you are still in high school dont waste our time please.
its a really good living... but you have to treat it as such also.
my 2nd year, our orimary customer shipper had a flood of late orders on a saturday. we keep a few guys on reserve for sunday deliveries (sunday pay lol) but they had like ten orders. crazy. we were in a safety meeting (paid) and bret says hey guys i just got hit... who has hours and can help out. he tossed those invoices out on the desk and everybody jumped up in unison and pawed thru the stuff. less than 1 minute and everybody had something they could help out with and still be ready for the week coming.
team work. have your dispatchers back and he will have yours. family oriented. a fellow driver lost his pump, i didnt drive off, its his problem, we ran hoses from his trailer to my pump and we got unloaded. that is why i stay. well the money is good also... but really.. i feel like the company and other drivers have my back...
thats worth a lot also...
and i am off this weekend because last week i told chad my dispatcher i need sat sun for a family trip thing. he didnt make a face or act pissy... i dont ask often. he said next saturday? no problem buddy, marking you off on the calendar right now.
whats that worth? like i said i am not going anywhere job wise.
