I would be driving it, and pulling a bull wagon as well, i can put 40k down on the truck, so i would only be financing 30-35k. not to bad

Going to get on with a small outfit, just a few trailers kind of deal. they usually pay better and are a lot easier going.

Not any real business plan, get a truck, hook up with a decent outfit and start going. i'm fine with buying the truck before i find a trailer to pull, got a decent chunk of cash so the payments will be slim to none

Let me clarify something i suppose, strictly looking at price for new parts and labor, does it add up to 75k? or could i do the same job for less? also something im wondering, say i find an old truck, with a CAT c12 that is on its way out, can any cat dealer put in a c15? or must the motors be the same for the mount locations?

They can change the motor at the cat dealer, but the cost would be more than half the cost of the truck, probably 40 to 50k

For $75K you have plenty of options, most of them better than an old jerry-rigged truck. Shop around some more.

The shop at my former employer did that swap. Motor mounts, bellhousing, shorten driveline, clutch linkage too short, front sump or rear sump. Those are just the things I remember off the top of my head they had to deal with. They could have bought another truck for what they put into it. Oh and the used motor was a good idea too...lol

Sorry, 75 k for a 30 year old truck with no warranty on the rebuild??? A CAT rebuild is going to run around 20k just for parts unless you buy the Chinese knockoff parts.

I could find you a nice looking truck for 40k with a cat rebuild and warranty.

It's a tool and we like our tools to look good but what happens when three weeks down the road that $8,000 rebuild puts a rod through that $10,000 block and you are sitting there with a payment, repair costs ane no income?

    mlefler and Lepton1 Thank this.

@cnsper where do people shop for trucks? i just look at the local classifieds, for right now i'm not to serious on buying a truck. Just don't want to drive 500-1000 miles to look at one, this one was pretty much in my back yard
