In my state you cannot just plow through the cones. The dot tester blows the whistle when you even bump one and makes you stop and pull away from the cone. They treat it as if it was a wall.rbgtag Thanks this.

Very common. When I was at road master a few folks failed the first time. Even when they were all stars during regular class.
Relax and talk yourself thru it before you do something. -
I wouldnt worry about failure unless its like 10 plus tries. Right now your basic goal is to grasp the fundementals to get close and pass. Once your training youll get told when to turn the wheel etc etc with a trainer. Unless you get one that will let you figure it out. I didnt get that type.
When your solo youll get thrown into all types of unique situations. Very little exp.... solo and the clutch went out right as i got into loves. I got 2 shots at this before i couldnt get it in and out of gear with the motor running and even when it was off i had a hard time with the shifter. Sometimes you only get that 3 times for a pull-up. Let them know in is in. Lol
That night a tanker nosed into that tight side. Trailer was straight but the back axle on the spread is to the curb. I got lucky.

Took my test today. Did great on the pretrip straight line backing and my offset. No points. I drew alley dock. Had been doing it 9 times out of 10 on the range. Had issues at time getting too close to near cone at the top. Was told I could hit it and continue and it would only be two points. So when I saw I was going to hit it, but could still get it straight I went for it. The examiner started blowing her whistle and would no let me continue. I tried several pull ups because I had 12 points to burn. Couldn't get it away from that cone. Should have gone around and reset...but didn't and I failed. Pretty ticked at myself and our instructor who basically just leaned against a truck all day and smoked, messing with his phone. Gotta wait now until Wed to test again.

I'm gonna be taking my time a lot when it comes to taking my tests. I'm not so much worried about pass or fail in and of itself. I'm more worried about the fact that a failure will mean a 500 mile round trip a week later that I really can't afford to make. I am, however, going to do my damnedest to keep my head clear and my movements smooth.

At the school I went to about a third were unable to pass the skills test the first time around
