The "How are you going to make that weekly payment?" Wasn't directed at you directly. I'm talking from their point of view. I'm sure many there are week to week and never saved for rough times like this.
When I was a leasee we could take our truck to another company if we wanted BUT we could NOT run our own #s. With the steep cost of your trucks it would be tough to make it in today's economy with your own #s IMO. Not saying it can't be done, but you guys do have access to a lot of freight. Cheap as it may be.
I think many are feeling the pinch right now. When I was a lease guy I got .90 + FSC. I see van loads under .90 now. That has to be rough

Thanks so much for this! Such an excellent post. So much good information.
freightwipper Thanks this. -
I actually did quite well there.
But then again I was on the Tanker side, more consistent freight/rates.
The fees and high truck payment was what hurt.
It's the commitment one puts into their business that decides if they're successful.
I may be wet behind the ears with Schneider but not as a owner operator.
I've read quite a bit of information here, some good some not.
It's nice to just click on a load and roll, but like you all said I'm sure reality will kick in when loads cancel and the Customer Service BS starts.
The rates are low but it's industry wide right now.
I managed a very good week right out the gate with SNI so I guess I'm just a bit high on the easiness of putting it together.scythe08 Thanks this. -
Double Post sorry.

First year was great, second year started going downhill.. now it's crappy... well at least for what I'd like to pull off.
If things don't get better soon I'm considering going to a reefer carrier or saying screw it and try running under my own authority along with getting out of the SFI lease by going to a bank. -

A very good weekrock hopper Thanks this. -
Left orientation on Weds 1/11 afternoon, ran until Monday 1/16.
Ran 7 loads all drop and hook which is nice and easy.
I'm not naive enough to think I'll do that every week in this spiraling freight rate world but at least I know it can be done.
I don't have a truck payment and my SNI contribution is only $121/week.
Just under a $1000 for fuel which leaves the rest for me.
Now mind you I don't have a fancy truck but it's paid for and mechanically sound.
Here's a few pics.
