I'm looking to live out of my truck, I looked up flatbed trucks and I don't think that's a possibility with what I saw. Also, is there a link that describes each kind of trucking?
Flatbed, Tanker, Reefer, et cetera, educate me on what it all means!

You could live n the truck for really any company that doesn't require you to park the truck at the terminal what kind of trailer doesn't have anything to do with it
-
oh bro if you want to live in your truck you totally want a day cab. =x
im kidding look up conventional sleeper condo.
but there's more kinds of trucking than there are STDS.
flatbed, reefer, heavy haul over dimensional, hot shot/expedited, Less Than Load, dry van, end dump, belly dump, food grade tanker, hazmat, doubles and triples, over the road, regional, local, dedicated. as a matter if fact! here have fun. http://www.ooida.com/OOIDA Foundation/Tools/dictionary-glossary.asp
but all of that has little to do with the kind of truck that pulls the trailer. if you could give us a little more detail as to what you'd maybe be interested in we could go further. -
I'm looking to make between .35 and .40 a mile driving as a company driver. Around a thousand dollars a week. I would like to get cdl a training and ship out of Atlanta within the next month.
I just want a sleeper that has electricity so I can watch tv, run appliances, et cetera. -

EZ
DRY VAN - A lots of docking, shipper-recivers threat you like crap, everage linehoal from 200 to 700 miles+
Refrigerate - usually longer avarage distance between pickup and drop off, sitting time shipper - recivers from 3 hours to 10+, also a lot of crybabies on both ends.
Flatbed - ez to back you trl anywhere, shipper and receives mostly time treating you good. Tarping need to be learned, if ypu will tarp something like crap , and product you carrie will end up on a road - you carrier is over.
Tankers - go watch one safety video, go watcg safety video again but in different plan, you will need to control tmp, of a product, know gow to unload what , but it's not hard. HUGE MINUS You will forget how yo bwck into spots cause 99% of a time customer have unloading pipe sticking somewhere on a side of a building .
You welcome

i would contact prime first. they have reefer, flatbed, and tanker but i hear the tanker side isnt doing that well. they'll start you off at over 40cpm with a guaranteed $700 or 14cpm while you're with a trainer also! don't get hung up on the CPM. that means jack crap if you dont get the miles.
i will tell you this though. DO NOT accept a job for less than 38cpm.Switcher Thanks this. -
I'm looking into Swift now, .36 but I heard they don't hair follicle test, which is a big worry, because I quit drugs and alcohol last November and I keep getting random answers that they can see drug use from only 3 months back to a year. I also got a haircut recently, my hair is pretty short though longer than 1.5 inches.
Prime and Jim Palmer are my top choices though because of that .40 and i've heard good things. But you know, there's negativity around Swift but there also seems to be this general attitude against mega companies which I can understand. Giant corporations mean's you're more of a statistic than with smaller companies and so you may not get treated well. The thing is, Swift is huge which i'm attracted too, it may only be .36 but I think I could get miles and they operate everywhere and with almost all kinds of freight/tanker, whatever. They also have a cheap and decent training/cdl program. I also read that it's not too difficult to become platinum or diamond status with them which means I get a raise that will be more than .40. I also read new solo company drivers have been able to do it within 3 months.
Here's a question: I have pending charges still, should I wait until they're dismissed before sending in applications? (they almost certainly will, i'm in a pretrial diversion program, i'm a first time offender and have nothing else on my criminal/driving record except an illegal u-turn 3 or 4 years ago). I've never lost my driver's license. -
Thats just the start of the problems most drivers encounter at Swift.
What makes you think you can get the miles? Did a recruiter promise you the miles?
Swift does not have tanker. Their have been some exceptions but generally no tanker.
$4,000 for 3 weeks training is not cheep. That is more then the tuition at state universities and they provide far more. Read @Friday 's post on the quality of the Swift training school.
The qualifications of this bonus program has changed through out the years.
That depends on the charges, what the conviction will be, and who your sending applications to.
Charges pending is tough because your going to have a hard time scheduling training or trucking around any court dates. -
