    I agree, we don't need to glorify cheap freight

    @CaptainDaveG and @Diesel Dave

    Please refer to my very first statement. I said "feel free to correct me"...so yes it's alright with me if I'm off on a few things...lol

    Everything below here is in response to @Diesel Dave

    What's interesting is @Diesel Dave rather "high horse" response.

    I would argue that your reality is NOT EVERYONE'S REALITY.

    We all make adjustments in life in response to whatever goals we are aiming for. Your cost of living does not equal mine nor @BoyWander cost of living.

    You come off as snotty, yet you have no idea what @BoyWander's breakeven point is....nor appreciate the fact that he's heading home.

    Implying that he took a bad rate coz he's an "impatient newbie", which you might not take, is completely unwarranted.

    Maybe you would like him to miss his appt of adding key equipment to his truck, (me thinks APU?) which would reduce his idling and add more $$ to his bottom line via less fuel burnt, or even avoid soot build-up in his DPF/DEF system (more $$ saved via less repairs).

    If you really looking at the big picture (as you claim) maybe you can tell us how to avoid future costly repairs/fuel bills....then you will really be adding VALUE to the thread....and I will gladly thank you.

    Cheers!!

    But if you took time, you would understand the reasoning.

    You just keep up the "Cheerleading" for the OP, you seem to be very good at it. I been in this business since 1979. $1.00 @ mile was cheap freight back then and it was still a struggle not to mention everything to make a truck run was less expensive also. So go ahead, when you decide to take the plunge also, my best to you.

    @Diesel Dave ...thank you.

    If positive encouragement in a normally negative environment is cheerleading then I won't stop.

    Not every one is a negative Nancy.

    Now can you impart positive advice on how to avoid costly repairs given all your experience. That would be awesome.

    Diesel Dave Thanks this.

    The issue is that the next time you are in that area and need a good paying load heading home there will be none.

    Instead, why don't you head towards home and look to grab a better paying load along the way?

    You can still pay for the fuel and not drive rates lower.

    My pleasure, you will need a pair of coveralls and lots of tools. When your not trucking or being the bookkeeper, your going to be underneath the truck. "Maintenance" is key. Don't trust the shops.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

    @Diesel Dave ....sweet...

    Let me see...

    • Bookkeeping (got that)...got a degree in accounting
    • Tools (got some of that)...I own an auto repair shop
    • Coveralls (got that)...came with the shop
    • Diagnostics (got that)...attended auto repair training sessions at local community college
    I would say this...(And I tell ALL MY CUSTOMERS)....KNOW WHAT YOU ARE PAYING FOR AND WHY.

    Trust BUT verify.

    Diagnostics take time, and time is money. The more I understand what your car is doing (via customer input) the less they pay in diagnosis time.

    Now, back to regular programming for @BoyWander

    Lol. I have to admit 90 CPM is terrible. But that's not going to change much. If Florida started paying $1.50 then rates going down there will go down. It's just the nature of supply and demand. I sure would like to see the supply of trucks go down, though.

    Maybe I made a mistake taking $2.90 into FL knowing I needed to get home. But I'm still new at this. I'll get it. And trust me I'm not keen on driving down rates. But it's going to take time for me to learn the markets.
