    ESTES vs. SOUTHEASTERN

Would like to hear back from some people that work or have worked at these companies. (or if you just have solid info that works as well)

Both of these companies have locations in my area and they are companies that I am highly interested in. I hear good things about both and they seem to be two of the best LTL companies out there. Any truth to that or no? Another question is about Southeasterns pay... anyone know what they start out and what their top out is?

A few more companies I would like to inquire about...

    Wilson, Ward & ABF

Any reviews on either of those 3?

Abf: here in Louisiana (I don't know if there are any geographical pay differences)

    Full time (not casual),
p&d (city driver) start at $21.69 hr, topped out $24.10 overtime after 8hrs.
No vacation for 2 years. Lots of hand freight, residential deliveries, sleeper sofas, spa's, pool tables, etc. etc.

Let me know if you want to know anything.
If you don't mind hard work, driving to places that you shouldn't in a tractor trailer you can be home

    You start at 85% of scale = $19.10 /hr
2nd yr 90% = $20.20 , etc top scale is $22.70 hr I'm out of Chicago area , there are 4 terminals , the big one is in Chicago heights , drivers out of that one (shuttle or p&d) make $1.00 less because they just drive (no dock work )
I'm out of Bolingbrook but we have to work the dock, they call it Combo driver and those numbers above are our wages... all drivers at our terminal work 58-60 hrs a week (up to 60 hrs a week union rule) anything over 8 hrs is OT

1st yr= 1 week paid vacation, 5 sick days, 8 holidays plus an Xtra day for your bday, on your bday, u can either take the day off with pay or work and get paid Xtra 8 regular hrs
    2nd to 8th year = 2 weeks paid vacation
9th yr until you die = 3 weeks paid vacation,
At the end of every calendar year you get paid for any unused sick days.
You can not roll them over for next following yr

Last year (late July ) I've jumped on line haul, I'm Xtra board -don't want to get a bid, (I make more money been Xtra board ) I go Chicago -Nashville -Chicago 3 times a week have Sunday and part of Monday off, because I'll go back on the road monday night and I'll bring home between $1150-1300 /week clear, company pays 100% insurance benefits are excellent especially if you have a family, pension is not good , but hey nothing is perfect

@Rusty Moore Remember that every LTL terminal is different, for instance a terminal in City A may have a ton of work while a barn in City B may not. Aneither thing to consider is the abstract "culture" of a facility, some places are upbeat and friendly while others are not. This forum is an excellent source of information, just be sure to research locally as well. Good luck to you.

So true. Each terminal has a different vibe. I'm lucky to be at a good one, but I've heard horror stories.

@Rusty Moore - check out www.truckingboards.com for more company-specific info. There are sub-forums for all the LTL companies where you might get more specifics.
