Here is a word of advice that is just that, advice/opinion. No dog in any fight at all....

For my first truck I would NEVER put 50% or more down on a NEW truck. Here are my reasons why, in no paticular order.....

1..You are cutting into your cash reserves that you may need.
2..You may get a lemon truck and end up loosing it because it stays in the shop all the time.
3..You may find out that owning isn't as fun and easy as you wish and want out, but all your money is invested in something that has depreciated a lot.
4..You could get sick or in a wreck and lose your large down payment that way.
5..The economy could take a dump while you're still in the learning curve.
6..Smart businessmen use other peoples money, especially when entering a risky business they know little about in actual practice.
7..When you feel comfortable, you can always re-finance to lower the payments if you want.

8..I would pay all cash for a good, cheap used truck, if I had o/o experience and knew I was getting a great deal.

These are just a few thoughts from someone that has owned trucks since the mid 70's.

Book smart doesn't equal success. I known lots of people that are book smart but can't use it because they lack any common sense

Good stuff here, especially #6. I have dang near perfect credit and I still entered into a walk away lease with my previous company. I wanted to make sure it was for me. It was, and 2 years later I now own my own. Don't rush these things. I know the younger generation wants instant results, but take some time to learn how things work out here. You'll hear guys that have been out here for 20 years say they're still learning.

    drvrtech77 Thanks this.
