Hey Flagirl - Be sure to check with your local community college as well. You could qualify for financial tuition as well. I am currently in Sage trucking school that is partnered with my local community college. I looked long and hard at different options and for me, paying my own way was the way to go. Now applying to various starter companies heeding Chinatown and others' guidance with which companies to go with. Ya'll have been invaluable to me in the past 6 months. Too many of ya'll to name but just know if you contribute to these boards regularly - you made me laugh, think and provided tons of advice. Much love.

Thank you to everyone for your help! Roehl was actually the first place I considered, but unfortunately they don't hire for CDL students out of my area. Jim Palmer asked me to get a CDL and some driving experience and reapply later, which I will certainly do! If I could afford CDL training out of pocket that would certainly be my first option, but I can't. I'm still looking into other options for funding school, but it's looking like company-sponsored will probably be my way to getting a foot through the door.
I also wanna thank y'all for being so helpful, this really is a wonderful forum and many of you have spent countless hours here helping people like me, and for that I am grateful. I can see how easy it is to get swindled in this career when you're first starting out and the information system created here is invaluable.firemedic2816, Bumper and d o g Thank this. -
Tyson Foods out of Springdale Arkansas, they haul beef, pork, chicken, and frozen foods to and from all 48 states.
I believe that they still take graduates from CDL schools, but do not have a school of their own.
Good luck to you. God bless you and your family.
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!flagirl Thanks this. -
Who did you talk to at Jim Palmer? That is Odd, they are a TRAINING institute wonder if they found something on your background. I feel there is something we aren't being told. Do you have a clean driving record? Clean Criminal Background? I called Jim Palmer spent 5 mins on the phone they ran back ground and MVR and I was accepted as a student....So someone some where is not giving full story...NOT SAYING It's YOU but somewhere something isn't being passed to us

I believe my recruiter was Adam and he was really great! All records are totally clean, I just didn't have the work history. I was really impressed with how quickly they worked and got me an answer though, and I will certainly be back once I have my license and some experience!
firemedic2816 Thanks this. -
Just updating this as I go so anyone who may find this later and lives in my area knows: as of the moment (February 2017) Swift has a hiring freeze on students from the state of Florida. A recruiter told me that they already have a lot of Florida drivers and not enough freight out of here to get everyone home regularly

This is the WIA that people are talking about. If you qualify your CDL training would be free. Check out Mid Florida Tech which is now Orange Technical College. They have an 8 week CDL program which many have said is VERY good.
