Anyone here play any online games (serious games) with a mobile broadband connection on the road? I played WoW for years and quit recently when I started driving. I'm planning on buying myself a really good new laptop within the next year for when Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 come out, since they'll be much less "intensive/hardcore" than World of Warcraft. That game just required way too much time and effort to achieve any real goals. I'm just wondering how well these mobile broadband connections (I'm on one now) can handle hardcore games and if we'll ever have time to play them anyway.

And on a side note, if my trainer doesn't stop snoring really soon I'm going to ****ing KILL HIM AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH... that is the most god awful sound EVER (after my alarm clock at 6 in the morning) >_< I'm seriously about ready to shove a pillow over his freaking face.. ANYTHING to make it stop!!! :biggrin_25510:

I'm currently taking a break from WoW till the new expansion comes out, and I recently quit LOTRO. But for me when I do play online I rarely have problems with my Verizon Broadband Access.

The only times I do have issues is when I'm in an area that the network doesn't truly support broadband speeds.

How often did you play WoW? I'm still figuring on staying away from WoW and waiting for D3 and/or SC2. Wow is just too intensive and time consuming. Wonder how hard it would be to throw a 30ish inch flat planel in my truck eventually and get online with a PS3.. i'd love to play Socom Confrontation on the road haha

On a side note, i have just under 100 hours of training to go... out of 275 total... i can't freaking wait.. im sick of being in someone elses truck, i want my own.. and i want to be able to shower every day if i feel like it and actually be able to go online when im not moving rather than having to catch my laptop every few minutes when it goes airborn from a bump in the road.. it's so frustrating... 275 hours is way too long for me.. my trainer agrees, but says most students need that and more. I'm ready to get out there on my own. I would prefer it at this point. I hate having someone next to me when I'm driving... that feeling of having someone looking over your shoulder as you work.. even though he's not even doing anything but just sitting there enjoying the ride anymore lol

The only reason I'd ever consider getting a laptop is to be able to play WoW on the road.

That's what I thought, until I tried going more than a week without any internet at all.. it's just too hard! lol

While I was playing WoW on the road I played maybe 6-8 hours a week. Mostly while waiting at the dock unloading or loading. Sometimes it was more, sometimes it was less.

Yah I'd like to play Everquest 2 on the road, not sure a laptop can handle it though, but I was thinking of bringing my desktop and rigging up some padding for it so its cushioned very well, maybe 6-8 inches of foam under it, so it doesnt get "shocked" we shall see!

Glad other out there are able to play online, makes me feel better :D I get a truck in 6 weeks :(

I ordered the Lapdesk Futura from Lapworks online a couple days ago. I've got about 40 hours of training left, and as soon as I get my own truck and get home, I'm going to go pick up my own wireless broadband connection (using my trainer's verizon mmbc right now) and test it all out. This lapdesk looks awesome. I got it with the attachable mouse pad. So it will be long enough to sit comfortably on my lap and use with a mouse. It also folds up and can be used on a regular desk for ergonomic adjustability.

I've logged onto WoW more than once with this mobile broadband connection. Anywhere I get a Rev-A connection, the latency in game is no different from my cable connection at home. Even when im in a non Rev-A basic connection area, I can still play WoW with a latency of around 400+ms, which is easily doable. The game can be played on dial up, so it can be played anywhere I can get any kind of mobile connection, and still seems to be much better than dial up. Now I just need a new laptop that will run WoW at more than 15fps with all the settings at their lowest >_<

I haven't played a whole lot though because we hardly ever sit still (running a team setup) and it's impossible to play with the truck moving lol. Plus I can't get comfortable enough in someone else's truck to get all set up and play using the mouse and whatnot.
