Good/Bad? 2007 Peterbilt 387, Caterpillar C15 475 HP, Ultra Shift Trans

No it doesn't have dpf. It was 2008 when Cat ran into the problems with changing their engines and actually had a class action suit. Those engines were worthless.

 

Walk away and find a cheap Pre-Emission Truck or a used Glider.

That truck is a rolling Money Pit, and stay away from any and all Auto-tragic Transmissions as they all will eventually start giving you problems and emptying your wallet.

Find a truck with a 13 speed manual transmission.

 

Get the VIN and go to a Pete dealer, get the printout of what the truck is spec"d with.

 

I had a 07 387. With the MXS ACERT. No major issues, but was meticulous on maintenance. Look on the right side of motor, should be a tag with the engine year. In an 07, could be an 06 motor. No DPF. That is the reason for the twin turbo set up. I would not hesitate to run another ACERT, but I was not fond of the big body of the 387.

 

Dpf and def depend on years, I have dpf and no def.

 

In the minority here but I've had that setup on my last 379 and it was great. Bought it with 380k and drove it to 880k. Transmission needed a clutch at 800k and xy adapter. NO other maintenance. Engine ran generally issue free as far as internals went. Did manifolds, turbo, etc over the years, but never a rebuild. New owner took it over a million and she's still running strong. I love the autos. I've had 4 of them in various Petes and myself and my drivers love them. They resisted at first, but the lack of fatigue in NYC driving conditions quickly turned them around.

 

i have that same truck right now it has a 06 nxs engine in it .turned over 1 million a little while ago ran hot last year. you know that means a new head.lol this year. alternate, rebuild clutch fan, shocks all of them. slack adjusters, banjo clamp,oil sencer. but its ok still doing ok. and still more to do

 

I'm about to get one for 13k.. new turbo new egr brand new tires brakes and drums all the way around. 1.18 on dash I know it was upkept but it is risky

 

yes it is if you can get a oil sample. it will tell you alot. thats what save me i got the oil sample done the 2nd week i had the truck. blowed the head on the 5th week .thats the same week i got the email of my oil sample. they replace the head under the 30 day warranty. they treated me good and fair.
