Amps use the ignition output from the stereo head unit to cut on and off so it won't drain the battery. I am a certified mobile electrician. During my teen years I installed amps and stereos on a daily basis.

Started my career at swift in 2011.
I put a small inverter in there any way.
    I don't give a ####.
And I also peeled off the yellow CAUTION YOU ARE IN MY BLIND SPOT sticker .

I peeled off a crapload of stickers off of all the trucks I drove at Swift, except that one.

Swift has fired drivers for adding their own inverter though. And not just the ones that caught fire either.

You do realize that is just a remote line. It can simply be bypassed by not going it up. I had had several over the years that I never used.

    OP,

Consider leaving swift. No reason to work for a mega. None of them will ever respect you. -Just what's good for the corporate board. Find a mom n pop outfit. Bust your butt for em and idle, invert, no face camera, no speed limiter, wingman, no hand holding, and be treated like a human being. Eat of luck with the inverter thing. Like Patty said, the small walmart inverters will power laptops.

Yeah remote/ignition line are the same thing like a truck/semi. You changed the subject your original comment was that an inverter hooks up just like an amplifier. I'm glad you brought this up I totally buried my memories where competing for the loudest system was very important. I remember building a custom box for a customer with an Expedition. I took out his back seat and wired 12 ten inch JL audio subs powered by six PPI amps (didn't bridge ran at 4 ohms) man you could hear him coming over a mile away loudest system I ever heard. Up close it made my chest hurt.

    So many nonsense responses.

I have had a plug in inverter for years. It was always in the open when in the shop, and no one said anything.
In fact, service people have told me the fuses that I could increase the power on to use them without overpowering the wires.

My new '17 Cascadia has a 1800W inverter, factory installed.
Nice. But not all of them have it. I got lucky.

The Swift inverter policy has always been strict on paper, but loose on enforcement.
Probably because a few morons hooked large inverters up incorrectly and burnt the truck to the ground.
    Understandable, I think.

    But things change.

With a plug in inverter I could use my laptop and charge things with no problem.
A 12V lunchbox oven (or 2) let me cook some very good meals.
With the big one I have now I can use a grill and toaster oven to cook things more quickly.

    Life is good.
