Well, just went over my 9th year with FCC and have no plans to leave unless they close the doors for some reason. Been the best outfit to work for in my almost 4 decades doing this work. All thru this goofy recession stuff I have stayed very profitable with the last two years well over $80K net. And that is being home every weekend and holiday, and usually taking 3+ weeks off a year. Great customer base that most times will let a driver take their break right on their property. I have never sat more than a couple hours between loads, unless I needed to take a 10 hr break anyway. And a large majority of those 10 hr breaks I have taken right on the customer property I was picking up or delivering to.

While I am an O/O, I wish that the carriers I had driven for as a company driver would have spec'd out the trucks as well as Mike has at FCC for his company drivers. 70"+ sleepers on every one of them, inverters, fridges, APU's. And when you walk around the FCC terminal, almost everyone calls you by your first name. Great bunch of staff at FCC. Fun to be around and treat you like you mean something.

Worth taking a look at to see if it fits what you want in a carrier.

They let me pretty much do the job with little intervention. Guess I am one of the low maintenance drivers. They just give me the info and unless they hear from me, just let me go about doing what I do. Many of the loads, I either have a window to deliver or let them know when I will deliver. A few here and there are those "it has to be their at this time" kind of thing. The money is good, but the overall experience makes it great. And a very good customer base makes a big difference in many ways. Loads are steady and consistent, many are drop and hooks at both ends, etc. When a person is staying busy and not sitting around, it makes for a more pleasurable experience.

They have 48 and midwest reagional. They have had some other regional stuff from time to time, but I haven't kept up with everything. I came on when Midwest regional was getting cranked up and they needed folks for that. That is all I do. I have bounced out of that a few times in 9 years to cover their bacon on a load. Kind of hard not to as they ask so nicely and always have the return load booked for me to get right back into my normal game. Went to Washington once in 9 years. Went to SC and Virginia a couple of times. The majority of O/O and company folks are on 48 state. FCC has tried to stick with a policy of a load out and a load back so even the 48 state guys have a normal life. And they have done a pretty fair job of that. I have grabbed loads many times that someone brought in from the west or east coast and dropped in Chicago (Romeoville), Omaha, KC or Sioux City and occasionally Ft. Wayne and finished the run for them so they could be home or get a load back and keep moving. it was delivering in my operating area anyway. If the load is not going required to deliver for a day or two after you can be there, they just have you drop it somewhere and go on to the next load. A local driver or regional guy will handle it from there. Darn good teamwork and planning by them.

We have lost several great drivers over the years. Seems like folks get on here and stay to the end. Probably will be my story as well.

FCC is on my list, but I don't meet their 2 year requirement for employment. I may apply anyway since I have a great employment history and driving record.

After I get a few years under my belt, I may go talk to them.

I was talking with Lisa in recruiting about my nephew who was interested in getting on, and I was under the impression that their minimum criteria was 1 year with a clean record. Don't hold me to that, but you may want to check again to see. There is a lot of office stuff I have no clue what the current mindset is.

I don't even have that. Hell, at the moment I don't have my CDL. I start training next week for it.

But I will have to give them a call. The worst they can do is tell me no :)
