Larsen Transportation in Greenville, Michigan uses TLC Companies for it's applicants. I have never encountered another trucking company that uses TLC Companies to apply. An internet search shows TLC Companies to be a PEO. I can't tell if they are partnered with Larsen or not. They have something called a co-employment agreement which seems to make them both the employer. I have never heard of a PEO before.
    Has anyone else?
Have any of you dealt with or worked for a PEO trucking company?
What has been your experience with PEOs?
Are they legit? Trustworthy? Pros and cons?
If you did work for a trucking company set up like this, who was your employer - the PEO or the trucking company?

I appreciate any helpful answers you can provide. Thanks.

I've used a PEO at one of my companies - non trucking. We were too small to get good rates on medical insurance for our employees but by leasing our employees from the PEO, we could offer excellent medical and a 401k and still saved money. Also was easier because they took care of all of the paperwork.

    Thank you for your response.

"...leasing our employees from the PEO,..."?

So, that means that your employees were not actually your employees but rather employees of the PEO? Like temps from a temp agency? And if so, employees would have to communicate with the PEO for all important matters such as pay, benefits, tax documents, etc. and also with your company for matters related to the actual work?

After submitting my post I dug a little deeper online into PEOs and got more confused and uncomfortable with the idea of them. There seems to be a long history of PEOs being used as a tax dodge for companies and the PEO themselves with the employees getting screwed in the end.

I admit that I really have no idea what PEOs actually are or how they work - for all I know they are a normal part of the transportation industry and I may have probably worked for companies that utilized them and just never knew about it. How would I know?

    Thanks again for responding.

They were under my direct supervision but were actually employees of the PEO. There are good ones and bad ones. The one we used was a local company that had a long successful track record. We saved because their unemployment tax rate was less, workers comp was less, plus the benefits. The temp agency is a good comparison.

I wonder how prevalent PEOs are in the transportation industry here in the U.S. I've searched online but TLC Companies is the only one that pops up in my searches. I may be searching wrong or I just may not know the right words to use in my search. Or they are a well buried secret like so many business' details are.

Thank you again for the helpful answers.
