Hey Guys hope everyone had a great day and made it safely to your destination. Got a question. A friend of mine is looking to get into the Hot-Shot Biz and asked me if I was looking to hire on. Now I know this fella is a good decent person with great morals hard working ethics and pretty sure he would be reliable. My only dilema's as of right now are
1. Haven't been in business but for a year so paying could be difficult.
2. Not sure how that would work.
Which brings me to my questions.
If I was to say hire this driver who would use his own truck and trailer but would use my authority, does that mean he has to be an employee of my company or can he be what they call a lease on driver?
If he is a lease on driver operating under my authority does that mean he has to go on my insurance?
Can I give him loads that I am assigned by my brokers?
Do I have to have a DQF performed?
If he is over 26 thousand pounds do I have to have IFTA for my truck which is not over 26? Or does he have to get his own IFTA ? But how can someone get IFTA if they don't have a DOT number ?
Can he just be a sub-contractor? If so how can I give him loads if according to my contract with brokers I am not allowed to do so?
These are just a couple questions off the top of my head I am sure there will be more but I look forward to all the comments and information I know all you guys are about to flood my post with.
Thanks Guys have a great night stay safe

We were debating this the other day and a friend's friend blew his engine in his truck. What were discussing was the risk & reward of building a business with friends. Always ask yourself is this is a friend I would want to loss on account of the business arrangements didn't work out. I know it wasn't your question but some of my friends I tried to expand businesses with didn't workout. Who knows it could've been me. The friends are more important than business. I hope all goes well for you and him

I believe when you are doing business with a friend, there is always a risk of losing him as a friend. In a hypothetical situation where you can't pay him, he will either stop working with you or he'll have a fight you because no one wants not to be paid for the job they are doing. If he doesn't do any of these things, then you are so lucky. Good luck!
