i've never been involved with a lease, so i doubt that i'm qualified to answer this. but, from what i've heard, companies lease because it's good for the company. if the driver fails, they take the truck and lease it to someone else.
if it was me, i'd stay away from leasing for at least a couple years. -
I would put at least 2-3 years in as a company driver anywhere before you talk about leasing anything. First of all most of the bigger carriers are pushing their owner operator packages. It's called risk shifting. You assume all the risk and they take more than their share. It works out to the same or less pay in some situations as compared to company pay. You now have all the risks associated with owning a truck without the proper compensation.
While leasing at most companies makes it easy to walk away if it doesn't workout, that shouldn't be the goal. I knew a guy that went to CR England and lasted 6 weeks in one of their lease arrangements. He didn't make the money he thought he would.
Before becoming a company driver with a truck payment (Which is what a lease is in the long run) you need to find out what freight pays. Hopefully you get to work some broker loads were you can see what the run makes if you had your own authority. You also need to find out for yourself what and how a fuel surcharge is billed so you know what you should be collecting.
when you put 2 and 2 together you should be able to see for yourself that leasing is almost never worth it, but everyone has their own idea of how they can make it work.
Bottom line, don't get pressured into a lease until you have all your homework done. Good luck! -

Never enter a lease with a company... The odds are greatly stacked against you to succeed.. This is why the companies try to push it onto drivers.. They are out to make more money off of you leasing then having you as a company driver...
Just use the search option in this forum, enter in "lease" and read all about how it... You will see that it is basically a SCAM.
