I am referring to the No Truck roads with no weight limits no bridge, just mainly due to sharp turns and/or steep grades. Some roads say no trucks since they can't clear a sharp S turn without using both lanes. One highway to Manhattan says no trucks only because people who travel that road are elitists. Google maps showed the HWY bring a straight shot in 15 minutes vs going all the way around 60 minutes through Brooklyn.

Empty bobtail?? Overweight on the steers. Huh?

Doesn't Bobtail mean Truck only No Trailer ? Or am I mistaken?

35E in St. Paul, MN is an interstate with a no truck over 10k ( I think) sign. Otherwise, I violate those restrictions regularly.
How else am I supposed to make some of my deliveries?
Especially in Superior WI, where the CITY GARAGE is surrounded by no truck signs. I deliver to tons of Residents who live on roads "protected" by no truck signs.

Those signs are up in three different cities I pick up in the LA area, I don't think they apply when my pick is less than 100yds from the sign. pfft

I do my best to adhere to the letter of the law, as much as possible. But its patently obvious that some people in government have no sense of reality and how things get delivered.

Yes, if your steer axle weighs 11K when you don't have a trailer hooked up, and you turn down a 5-ton axle weight limited road, you're overweight on your steer axle. Now if your steer axle is only 9500# without a trailer, you'd be OK on a 5-ton axle weight limited road. Either way, though, be prepared to be hassled and potentially delayed until they can get the portables out to your location if they really want to hold your feet to the fire.

As a general rule, a "no trucks" sign means just that. Don't take a truck there, whether you have a trailer hooked up or not.

As for the curvy roads with truck restrictions, most of the time those come with stipulations...no trailers over x'...or no trucks over. x' in length. If that's the case, and you aren't exceeding the length limit, then you'd be fine.

Like anything, you've got to know what you're dealing with. If it is just restricted to a certain size or weight, and you're within what is allowed, then proceed. If not, don't. If you don't know, or if you don't fall into what is allowed, then find another route.

I remember once in New Orleans I called the shipper since every road leading to the warehouse had no truck signs. He said trucks are allowed you just have to drive slow so the houses nearby wouldn't shake.

I've been told that too, as the girl said that stretch of road had no weight problems but they don't want a wake so it is a no wake zone.

I love when cops direct you off the main road for an accident, you get onto a side street that has strict weight limits and the sign that says no commercial vehicles, then before you get back on the main road, there is a cop sitting there waiting for you and hands you a nice ticket.

This has happened to me twice and one of my drivers once.
