Newbie to the industry, looking for advice.

I'd just put all the companies names in a hat dude and just pick one out and try it these days its abit like buying a car they all got 4 doors and 4 wheels its just about personal preference really.

 

My advice would be put owner operator on the back burner for a few years. Learn to haul different types of freight and find what you like. If you can find a company that seems like a good fit and gives you a varity of trailers to pull then go for it. At least you will learn all of what i said with one company.

 

Do mind sharing your instructors advice so we are not in the position of repeating what you already know?

Overall the dream of working somewhere and then becoming a O/O is shared by many that enter into trucking. In fact it is shared so much, their seems to be a shortage of paying loads for all these trucks and no shortage of drivers willing to work for cheap.

 

Start somewhere running tankers it seems experienced tanker drivers could make a little more$. Plus it is still CDL experience that is useful in any other segment of the industry. I wish I had some tanker miles under my belt.

 

hard to say. If you're talking about starting a new authority you'll may just get told no or be quoted 20,000 grand a year or something obscene like that. If you're talking about leasing onto a company with your own tractor you may have a hard time finding anybody to take you with less than 2 years minimum driving experience.

 

Pull dry vans. Look at Werner or US Express. Crete is a good company to train with. Pay is one of the highest, but training is 8 weeks.

 

At least at a real job, you can return home for a real meal, and sleep in your own bed...dont have to walk through a parking lot to pee and take a shower.
