Nope. The 30 minute break requirement got tossed out almost immediately for local trucks operating under the 100-air-mile exception by the courts.

Yeah your right I looked it up as you were replying to my post. My company makes us take them anyway because we occasionally exceed the 12hr on duty.

I've been wondering how they'd catch someone using the 8 day exemption. You'd have to get inspections frequently to get caught. Not that I've thought about doing it myself.

Can you explain clearly in plain language what is the 8 day exemption?

Truck cannot go outside the 100 mile radius more than 8 times in a rolling 30 days or last 30 days. Iftruck goes more than that then you must have an elog for 2000 and newer.spax Thanks this.

If you normally operate inside of the 100-air-mile exception, you do not ordinarily have to complete a RODS. Only on those days where you venture out past the 100-air-mile radius, work past the 12th hour, or don't return to your starting location is a log book page required for that day. The 8 day exemption is simply that you are allowed 8 of those days or fewer within any 30 day period to be exempt from the ELD mandate. If you need to log a 9th day, you are no longer exempt.
