Is this a product you need to introduce to trucking companies or trailer manufacturers? Sounds like it's already in the prototype stage, if not in the production consultation stage.

If it's a product that can be added to any trailer then there's any number of large trucking companies (we call them "megas"). Any Google search for "Top 10 trucking companies" will yield a list of carriers and key people, at the top. I assume you might just want to work with one or two initially to test the product and I would think a few well-placed phone calls and follow-up communications should get that ball rolling.

    STexan,

Thanks for your suggestions. We have a couple of BIG trucking companies that are testing the prototype and like it a lot, they are giving us suggestions for improvements. We think we may have it out in a few months. Our problem is more of a "now what?" sort of thing. Do we hire somebody who just calls trucking companies? If so, who is that person and how do we find him/her?

Our company is successful in a different industry, and we know for sure that each industry has its dos/don't and ways to approach people that are respectful. In our primary industry, customers won't buy from somebody they don't already have a relationship with, it's an industry of long-term relationships. So if you want to sell something new, you have to find somebody that already knows everybody.

    Is trucking like that?

Write a job description. Hire someone. Make it an intern position someone who can get college credit for the work. Select someone who would be a great fit for your company and add to team upon graduation.

There are plenty of people out there looking for this kind of work. Good luck!

Is the product ready to market or is it still in the test process? What you could do is just go down to any truck stop and simply chat to a few drivers and see if they'll try it out for you i'm sure if you offer them a few dollars that makes it worthwhile they'll be in on it. Other wise you could simply advertise that you need drivers for a test run there's always someone out there to lend a hand.

This board is mostly for drivers, owner/operators, and small fleet owners (<10 trucks). You're not going to find any executives from large companies (or people who have their ear) on this site.

Best way to get the word out is a press release to trade blogs and magazines. Trade shows too.

I would start by using goole to find intermodal trade publications, scan a few, then run an add in the one that you think will deliver the results you are looking for.

Im confused, this is basic marketing. Based on the general description you could sell it to the shippers of valuable cargo, cars, electronics ect. They buy their stuff by the container load anyway, add your product for security ect.. im making a assumption but if its tracking and tampering protection, the makers of or haulers of would be less interested in it as the owners of whats in the containers....

Thanks again for your comments and suggestions. This is really all we are trying to figure out:
How do we find somebody that knows trucking company owners and executives? OR
How do we approach trucking company owners and executives ourselves with this product?
