That's becuz, the sonnava' b1tc8 knows he's going to lose next coming election (in May)!!!
That's an extra savings of "$80-$100" per round trip, it's just too bad, that sonnuva' b1tc8 'Coquihalla' was closed for a week (Feb./ 05- Feb.13).. Albeit when some more slides start taking place, that inconsequentially, if the Mountains continue to keep sliding, that fuel prices will keep on rising.. Good news. The Trans Canada between Hope and Kamloops should be virtually deserted now, except for Super-Bs in the winter.
Of course B.C. (Bring Cash) did implement a 2.5 cent per litre (9.45 cent per U.S. gallon) carbon tax on fuel earlier this year.

It already is compared to years ago. The only traffic on it now is those like me going North of Cache Creek. I can remember when it was bumper to bumber truck traffic through the Canyon with parking spots at Dogwood and the Alpine at a premium.

The only time I take it anymore is if I'm westbound and the Coq. is closed, or if I'm eastbound and the chain up lights are on.
Honestly though, they should almost force the Super-Bs to take the canyon in the winter because they always spin out coming out of the sheds just before the summit.
