ive been driving for TMC for going on 6 years here in dec. i have been very happy with the company. i do my thing and stay under the radar. if you follow the rules that the d.o.t have put out u can make money as a mileage driver. im on the specilized fleet and have been making just as much as i was as a line haul driver. i think that flat bed is god work, but it is not for everyone out there, but everyone sould try it at least once. hellTMC has a few women drivers now in the fleet. i know 1 of them and she seems to be happy.

 

You don't. You don't *Have* to be sitting there the next morning. Most of our unload times aren't based on any specific apointment, the majority of the time it'll be before 5:00 (Local) Before 3:00, and so fourth. So, as long as you get as close as you can the night before you can finish off the 1-2-3 hours of the trip the next day, and still get the load off. Once you're behind, and running on the later side of the day you can let your Fleet manager know that you need a shorter one, so that you can get back on the early side. That's the way i do it, i usually take one 2 day run right in the middle of the week so that i can wash myself, and the truck, and take care of any additional things i've been putting off. I thank ya for the advice. Sadly for now I won't be a TMC'er, as they denied me for some reason. I don't know why. Based on industry standards here's my neg's on my app. Can you tell me if it's worth it to keep tryin with TMC, if it could have been something other than my app.

-1: Ops license suspension in 1996 failure to pay fines-immediate reinstatement.

-2 & -3: At fault accident in 2004-Ticket for same. Improper pass of 3 cars and a box truck. No injuries. I know all the "should not haves" on this one. I lived and learned. Flipped a 2004 mustang and rolled three times, got out without a scratch. Lesson learned, and #### lucky one at that.

-4: unemployed for 6 months while attending CDL school and de-stressing from the last job of 7 years.

Thanks for any pertinent advice/remarks ya'all. I thank the forum for everything I've been able to learn so far, as it has saved me from a potential few mistakes I could have made without being able to hear from other drivers/wannabees!

 

I would bet that this has something to do with your rejection. They see two accidents in 4 years and a suspension and move on to someone with a better record. I think that if you work for another company for a year accident free that TMC will look at that more favorably.

Trucking companies look at attending trucking school as a "job" so that shouldn't count against you.

According to the Federal DOT, you can average 60mph(of course this depends on what your truck is set at, if you cant do 60 then obviously you cant log it) in ANY state, and you will NOT be fined for doing so. I have been averaging this since the day I started driving and have never had a problem even in Ohio or Illinois, or California. You should be able to do 660 miles in an 11 hour drive slot, and you should be able to do 750 miles in a 24-hour period, unless of course you have pickups and deliveries, but if you are driving a long haul you should be able to do this and that is 60mph for 12.5 hours, which is the max that you can legally log in a 24 hour timeframe. That is 11 hours of driving, plus your 10 hour break and your pre and post trips and fueling, and then another 1.5 hours of driving after 10 hr break.

BTW, your individual company rules may be different than this, but this is what the DOT says are the maxes, this is for somebody who wants to argue that Im wrong. They can contact their local DOT and ask them. Now some companies want you to log less than this or tell you that you can log more in some states. But then again, like I said these are DOT Averages and Maxes.

 

Your score in your driving school makes a difference at TMC also. When I was in driving school I received a 96%, but TMC would not hire me without a 98% coming out of school. BTW, I had the highest score in my class when we completed it, and that was out of 47 students. They told me that I had to wait at least 6 months before re-applying. BTW, my driving record looked real similar to yours and my score was the ONLY thing that kept them from hiring me. They actually reserved me a rental car and a place in orientation, I even had the trainer's name and then less than 24 hours before I was to leave for Des Moines they called and told me that my scores were to low, and I said that I had the highest score in the class, and they said that they knew this and they hired nobody out of my class that applied. I think I have discussed this before here.

 

i was top dog in in my class my average was a 95 and im going to tmc. but i have no criminal record no tickets in the last 6 years and 1 accident in the last 5 years. I dont think your score matters ive never heard anything about it in any conversation with my recruiter.

 

I heard TMC was A good company.All the TMC equipment is nice they all look very polished.I heard TMC will take money out of your check if you go back to the terminal and your trk is dirty.They charge the driver 25.00 is the dash is dirty ect.If they expect the driver to deliver 5 lds a week no matter what,i'd be turning them into the DOT.Yes it can be done legally but not necessarily every week.That just proves how much the company cares for and respects the drivers.Are there any companies that actually do respect the driver?I have yet to find one.It's all about money.Sure the company loves you if youre their puppet on a string.But when you defend yourself,the company will hate you from then on.

 

With the TMC pay system you are given points for various items and those points determine your pay. They give you 10 points automatically assuming that you have a clean truck, and they will take that 10 points away if you fail a truck inspection. There is not a cash fine, but just a potential for a lower pay rate.

It is not 5 loads per week no matter what, it is 5 loads per week legally and safely. If you can not do 5 loads per week the only person that suffers is you and your paycheck.

Explain to me how expecting drivers to work so they can get a paycheck is disrespecting the driver? Go back under your rock and come out with a clue next time.

Hmmm, so money is good if it is in your paycheck, but when the company expects you to earn money for them you are their puppet? Get over your ideals about not selling your body for money and get a real job.

Why should any company put up with lazy whiners? If you can't deal with this job, and I take this post to mean that you can't, then go flip burgers. When you fail to do a good job and break things why should the company deal with you when there are other people who will do the job with less fuss.

 

Are you serious man? Have you ever owned/run anything in your life? Of course it's all about the money. If TMC can't earn any money, then how in the hell can they afford to pay you?

Of course if by "puppet on a string" you mean an employee that does his best to earn a profit for his company so they can keep the doors open then I completely understand lmao.


I am not a recruiter, employee, or cheer leader for TMC, I am not even OTR anymore, I drive locally in the oil fields (wanna talk about hours lol) but that will be the same with any company. Earn them a profit, they will gladly pay you, get you the runs you want, and give you raises. Over sleep, miss your appointments, and blame everyone but yourself because you suck at life and can't get it right and no, you won't get any of the above.
