I'm wondering how well anti idling laws are enforced in the northeast region. I always see the signs and try not to have to stop in those states. What are the consequences if you are caught idling? Thanks.

Was on the PA turnpike reat area once, idling the truck to recharge the batteries before I went to sleep. Got a knock on the door and told to turn it off.
Only time I've been bothered. -
Hopefully now with an anti epa head of epa the epa nazism will cease .
bottomdumpin, Chinatown and lilillill Thank this. -
How quickly can they call the law to write a ticket for idling? OR should they ticket a whole truckstop lot with 500 trucks in it all of them running at 1200 in a -10 situation?
Jersey is the one place that gets me and it's not the idling, the threats and signs for that came much later after I stopped going that way. If it is anything it's the parking tickets. Since the parking tickets in those days had no value other than a nuisance 45 dollar fine or whatever payable to the town, I paid it.
I once made 4 police officers stand at my tractor door waiting for me to come out after a nice leiserly dinner including salad and desert and coffee/smoke. Roughly 2 hours. When the yelling was finished along with the mother of all inspections so they say 60 dollars was written and paid in a few minutes it was no problem, actually sort of a theater for a future story telling later in life. They were not happy pacing around my door. I had parked it on top of 4 no parking signs that were mashed by previous trucks in a strip of gravel cut into a shoulder across from the 76 along I-78 not too far inside jersey. It would not be the first or last parking ticket.
As far as Idling, I had more problems with people coming out of the home, waking me up to say that my fumes and smoke was trapped by a temperature inversion layer and then blown directly into the bedroom. After educating them on federal law regarding not being able to move the truck I would go ahead and roll to another spot a few miles away to finish the sleep time. This time after checking the wind to see that exhaust is not entering houses. Takes a bit of diplomacy and be somewhat nice about it actually. But you would not be happy either if your home filled up with fuel and smoked you out.
Later in my years I started sleeping on the side of mountains in a pull off or some such patch of ground large enough to take several tractor trailers. US 322 10 or so miles west of US15 above the river comes to mind. No one bothers you there. Not that far out of any town large enough to have a police man potentially hunting idle tickets. It was pretty good deal to have quality rests on the hills far from anywhere. I considered that a valuable part of trucking no more parasites, cops, lumpers or thugs walking that far out to bother us.homeskillet and thejackal Thank this. -
