Naw, this was at the Speedway on South Dixie in Monroe, MI. It was a customer, it was back around 2001.
....However, it DOES seem to be a common archetype around c-stores.

33 street.. isn't that Hampden? Woodlawn sucks. Never was a fan of that part of town although I had a nice little fling with a gal from there when we were teens.

Last winter when I visited home we ran around Barclay. My sis lives outside of Mount Vernon. Lots of hipsters and artsy types there now. When I played music years ago in an indie band,we recorded a demo in one of those old warehouses that housed many artists. Kind of a ghost ship situation- NOT up to fire codes.

Hauling gas, I've had many fun encounters. I was on day shift so although I saw lots of crazies, it can't compare to what the night guys saw.

Now, with a different company, I run a set of double tanks at night. Delivering in a real crappy part of town in San Francisco and San Jose. Never had anyone bother with the load but they seem real interested in me.

I recall that slop bucket. With Hahn Transport, half the company is fuel transport the rest was cement and some stone. It's a GOOD company once they got ahold of the speed culture in those days. But I burned my bridges with them pretty good with my own accident on a really screwedup stupid sitaution one fine day. (That was a beginning when a suit came out to me demanding with profanity that I unload that whale right #### now...) got my goat.

Back to the gasoline. I was 21 at the time and was told that I would be 25 or so before the company's insurance would allow to write a policy for me to be assigned the fuel division. That's fair. It's a awful long time from 21 to 25 and looking back it's mighty short, no time at all.

Part of the lessons taught me with gasoline tankers as a driver with access to a whole yard full of them was never ever touch the gas tankers and the buckets under every valve for whatever gas that might be inside of them. Imagine how much fuel you could get, more than your car can hold with a little dallop here and there.

Fast forward years I ran a gas station for a while and it was a dark time in my life balanced by very decent people around me with a couple who were very bad thieves and really hurt the owners. They got the justice that they deserved. But they really hurt the owners. Regarding gasoline, that was not too much of a problem because our area had a small number of bums who lived in hud housing or curled up to heating or cooling units depending on season at night in the strip shopping areas and came to the station looking to steal a sandwitch while I was working alone that became a problem eventually 20 of them were banned with police called on sight. 6 months later that got solved.

Only one or two stole gas in my time there in my presence, however they were turned into police and eventually the company earned a judgement against them for the money, one in particular took 21.60 cents of gas in a jeep wrangler once. That one had a judgement entered against him to pay, he never paid. So 7 years of ruined credit for him.

Fast forward to today. My area has a handful of gas station clerks who stole from their employers the problem because they got caught after careful audits with values upwards of 12,000 dollars or more stolen in inventory, gasoline or cash or all three for two cashiers in particular. I myself noticed several illegal charges on several credit cards which then got blocked, traced and then new cards issued. The information was turned in to the one gas station I used to do business with regulary, hand them the card and fuel there was plenty of time to take down the card information and attempt a test transaction for the wrightsville beach hotel or some such silly place on the east coast.

For that reason I pay cash for gas always.

I have noticed that gasoline tankers no longer carry buckets under the valves. I wonder if something was changed or perhaps improved not to need them under the valves anymore in these modern days, can any tanker man help me with that little tidbit?

I've had more issues with people wanting my wallet than the load on my truck. But if someone wanted a load, I guess it would depend on what your hauling. Gasoline would probably be easier to fence that some chemicals tanker guys haul.

If they wanna open that valve up on my tanker and get them a jug while I'm sleeping more power to them, just close it back before leaving.

    Answer:
    Absolutely not!
There are terrorists and Bad Guys everywhere and they want to destroy us because they hate our freedom.
We need more laws and we need more brave, heroic first responders to enforce them.
I know this to be true because the news reminds me of this fact 24 hours a day.

I think they hate our perversions more than our freedoms.
