Even though Illinois doesn't require it, if the LEO claims he pulled you over because you were going 74, and you can prove you weren't, it calls his testimony into question. Not full proof by any means but it's something.

I thought only Iowa cops were such pricks. I would try and find a lawyer in the next larger city there in IL. I got caught doing 65 in 55 zone in Almogordo, nm and paid a lawyer that had his practice in Las Cruses, NM he was effective to the point of having the cop to withdraw the ticket. It did cost three times ($650) the fine but I always fight the tickets. In IL, if the cop won't show up in court, the probability of dismissal is high. Don't feel bad about going over 11. I would do the same thing or be even more daring. If there are elogs in place and I am two hours away from home I will unplug the darn cable and finish my home coming.
P.S. since this is log book only, not the speeding ticket, I would not spend money on lawyers.Last edited: Mar 4, 2017

What did Walter tell him?
Usually but I managed to make one change his story in front of the prosecutor. And my lawyer got another one to change his story on the stand. Some cops really ain't that bright. Just bullies.wore out Thanks this. -
Walter read him the law and probable cause, if you are pulled over and the officer said he pulled you over for speeding but reviews everything but what he pulled you over for, is considered fishing or trolling, he pulled me over for speeding but I had proof that I wasn't so his fishing trip ended!misterG, bbechtel16 and rank Thank this.

OK. I thought probably cause only applied to criminal stuff but I'm no lawyer. Also thought if they discovered other stuff as a result of the stop, they could pursue it. Like if he pulled you over for speeding then saw a shotgun on the pass seat you screwed. So I gather what you're saying is, they can't search for something else. Shot gun on the pass seat in plain sight = bad. Shotgun hidden under the bed you're good to go?

That's not what im saying! What I'm saying is call your lawyer if you are pulled over for speeding and you were not speeding and can prove it!bbechtel16 Thanks this.

Wow
Is this gonna be the new right turn thread?misterG and Socal Xpress Thank this. -
If an American policeman accuses you of of something it has to be made official by a judge. A cop arrests, a judge convicts. That's how it works here.
I lived in a third world republic and in there if a cop stops you, you pay him what you can out of your wallet and then be on your way. Is that how it works in Canada? -
By the way you don't have to go to court. Just send them a check or pay it online. Doing that, unfortunately, is an admission of guilt.
